Double Lorry - Scratchbuilt in 1/12th scale

It's only got a single pole for TWO horses to be attached to, so it's a "DOUBLE Lorry" because it takes double the horses that a "Single Lorry" requires to drag it around the countryside. Now a Lorry is with-in the Waggon family, ie - it's got 4 wheels. But the difference is in the size of the...

Double Lorry - Scratchbuilt in 1/12th scale

Here's a 1/12th scale Double Lorry ( requires two neddies for power, so it's a Double ) made from the drawings of J.E.Bishop once again and printed in “The Coach and Motorbuilder , October, 1918”. Usual methods of construction, so no different procedures were required. This type of vehicle was...

    Making Miniature Coachbolts

Yes, the model railway suppliers do sell 10 BA and 12 BA screws and nuts, only problem is that they are HEX headed bolts and HEX nuts. Now if they would only make and sell Square nuts and Coachbolts as well.

SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

This stuff should do the job equally as good ----------------- It will even work on very old decals, a quick coat of that clear and then you can cut your decals and use them, as that Clear Acyrilic will hold the old decals together very well...

Painting parts prior to assembly, yes or no?

This is the way I do it, others will have differing views on the subject ------ Much easier to assemble 'sub sections' before painting, so assemble all the bits that are going to be painted one colour, then assemble other bits that will be painted another colour. By doing it this way, you can...

Exercise or Breaking Sulky -- Scratchbuilt in 1/12th scale

I use an old Windows XP loaded with CorelDraw to make the designs, then print them onto a clear decal sheet, using an ALPS MD 5500 Printer and just stick the water slide transfers/decals onto the model.

Exercise or Breaking Sulky -- Scratchbuilt in 1/12th scale

Here is a 1/12th scale model of a Exercise or Breaking Sulky, built to 1/12th scale and totally Scratchbuilt. Had to make ALL my own nuts and bolts, as you CAN NOT buy miniature square nuts, or, miniature Coachbolts in 12BA. I've searched the web, BUT be blowed if I can find any, it would sure...

What to do with completed models?

Ebay is only good for models that you are going to wreck for spare parts, as the postman will have started that job for you anyway. Unless you want to spend stupid amounts of money on packaging the model,-------------- then the postman will always win out.

12th Scale Bakers Waggonette ----- Scratchbuilt

Yes it is, not a very accurate version of an Aussie W 900 though, it was an experiment to see how far I could go, at altering a model from a box of bits.

Sanding Timber to the required thickness

I needed something to be able to make the timber I required for the models to be of a very uniform thickness, so I checked on the web and found a working drawing for a Thickness Sander. This was tad on the larger size for the timber bits that I required, so I drew it up to a size that what I...

    Getting the full set?

A model builder in the usa has built about 50 or 60 Peterbuilt trucks, oh, there are about 5 different model kits, of these Peterbuilts trucks. He builds 'em straight outta the box, only changing some minor detail, like the headlights and then calls it a completly different model number...

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

Not until you are inside one of them alongside that roaring thumping motor, it is S-O-O loud, that your chest hurts from all that noise. Was a Fireman on those big deisel locos' and had to walk down beside the engines under 'full noise', when I had to retrieve something for the driver from the...

Making Scale Model Wooden Spoked Wheels

Here is a PDF of how I make the wooden spoked wheels, for my Horse Drawn Vehicle models. It is NOT the only way to make them, just the way I have developed to make them. There are other ways of making the wheels, that a lot of experianced modellers happen to do, to make their wheels. Started...
