    Tamiya Schwimmwagen 1/35

Thank you both very much. @Tim Marlow The wood is surprisingly simple, with only 3 steps. Four if you want a final gloss varnish as I did here. I start by basing the item in a "woody" colour. Here I used AK's Cork, but go lighter or darker as required. I then use a very coarse brush that...

    Trying a new paint

That looks interesting. I've seen people painting model cars with nail polish, some crazy colours available there!

    Tamiya Schwimmwagen 1/35

I'm off to the Lake District on Monday so wanted a quickie that I could finish before then. What better than a Tamiya. A great kit that fits together very well indeed, even if the wheels are a bit weird with the tyres made out of 5 sections. There are a couple of figures in the box too. I...

    Problems with Uncured Resin?

If they are 3d resin printed, it is cured by UV, so pop them in the sun for a while. That'll let you know if they've just been slightly under-cured.

    thinking of getting this

Jeez... I couldn't even justify that to myself, never mind my wife 😂

    thinking of getting this

That's a beast. I have a smaller, non - RC tow truck planned for the future, but nothing as sweet as that!

Eduard overtrees, am I in the minority?

I've never heard of them. Sounds like a good way to get extra parts at a bargain price though.

Gecko Models 1/35 Cruiser Tank A10 Mk 1A CS

I'm really surprised at the trouble you've had with this. I suppose every manufacturer has a dog of a kit but I've been really impressed with the few Gecko kits I've built, even if they were slightly overloaded with unnecessary photo etch. I certainly had them down as a manufacturer that I'd...

    Preventing rust in compressor tank

I do as Jim does, draining after each session then leaving the drain open to allow any remaining humidity to escape. The number of times I've switched it on and forgot to close the drain first... 😂

Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

I think it's one of those hobbies that can be both. Picking up charity shop kits or ebay bargains, taking the time to make small improvements, layering up paints and weathering effects could all make it an absolute bargain using Jim's metric of hours per £. Or you can buy the newest, most...

    Workbench, show us yours

Thanks. I'm lucky to have this spare room. Once we'd had the house extended it was just filling with junk so I moved my junk in instead 😂 Oh, and I have a very understanding and amenable wife!

Back to the future…or is it the past?

The only way I've been able to post a video is by uploading it to YouTube then inserting a media link here.

    Workbench, show us yours

I've posted pictures of my room before, but what the heck, I'm chuffed to have such a great space to work in after being out in a dilapidated shed. It cost a few quid to put together but it was much cheaper than a new, insulated shed. It's still evolving but here is how it stands at the moment...

    Rembering Ron.

Great additions Ian, very inclusive. After all, Ron built models the way he enjoyed building them, so it's entirely appropriate that a GB in his honor should offer the same.

Tamiya, what have you done this time?

I'm guessing it's a moulding thing, it just seemed unnecessarily complex for little benefit. A bit like their kettenrad where the track pads are moulded separately from the links themselves. Anyway, being Tamiya they went together schwimmingly 😁 There were some very tiny gaps between the...

Tamiya, what have you done this time?

So, I prefer wheeled vehicles to tracked as I find assembling multiple parts tedious. Today I opened the box on my newly acquired schwimmwagen and was presented with this. Five individual tyre sections per wheel 😂 Easily dealt with I'm sure, but why oh why?

    Another A/B problem Sorted

You should find a lot of similarities, since Iwata & Creos airbrushes are almost certainly made by the same Japanese factory and have some interchangeable parts. I once asked a top guy at Iwata if the rumours were true and his reply was "I can neither confirm nor deny 😂 ". Sounds like a yes...
