Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

Lol, all of the above (accept air brushes, for now....)!

Masking fluid, how to remove from brush?

I used Vallejo liquid mask on my current build, (Lynx chopper). It seems to have worked fine o the cockpit canopy, but I applied it with one of my old paint brushes, and it sort of congeals on the base of the brush and some of the bristles have stuck together! NB: the bottle does say its for...

Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

I just looked at what I've spent at our very own SMS, and its a fair bit, plus theres stuff I've bought from other model shops and from T'interweb, and from the couple of scale model shows I've now been to......(Sorry John)! Then there's my little hobby space, not so little now, its slowly...

    Westland Lynx - Matchbox - 1:72 scale

Nuther little update.... After the dry fit I stuck the engine cover and canopy in place. taped up to ensure it stayed in place. NB: I made a mistake here, I will come back to it further down [Doh!] Then on to some more painting, the main and rear rotors now in black (matt). Tape removed and...

    Westland Lynx - Matchbox - 1:72 scale

And on we go.... Pilots are seated, cockpit interior done, fuselage joined. Pretty good fit just a couple of very slim / fine gaps which will be filled. And paint will need tidying up. Liquid filler (Ammo thin Putty Surfacer) applied where needed.... A dry fit of the top engine cover was...

Scale indicator, which way is correct? eg: / or :

Yep, thats mine,..... but I didn't want to mention it, Lol....

Scale indicator, which way is correct? eg: / or :

Hmm, interesting, so a ratio compares quantities or sizes or parts, whereas a fraction (generally) represents a part of a larger whole. So, (arguably) IMHO the ratio is a better description of a scale model, as it is comparing the size of the (generally smaller) whole scale model, to the whole...

    Westland Lynx - Matchbox - 1:72 scale

Bit of progress, the whole lot has a second top coat and the paints looking quite nice. Bit the bullet and slowly and carefully took the masking liquid off the canopy, looks ok, not perfect by any means, but not bad for a first attempt! So I'm now ready to start assembling, first order of...

    Westland Lynx - Matchbox - 1:72 scale

Ah yes, you are correct, very subtle difference, there's also alternative landing gear, eg: skids for Army or wheels for Navy and the corresponding bottom section that holds the gear is also different, so have to select the correct one. Typically I had just assumed the noses were the same and I...

Scale indicator, which way is correct? eg: / or :

When I did technical drawing at college, then later my C&G in AutoCAD, and later still when I did floor plans on CAD as a Surveyor, few years back, I'm pretty sure we always put the scale using ":", eg: 1:50 or 1:100, etc. Just was not sure if there was an accepted convention for scale model...

    Accurate Armour 1/48 kits

Erm, do you mean kits that you have made that are "accurate", or do you mean a company called "Accurate Armour"? Some people do buy "made" or completed kits, but TBH most peeps on here build their own? Cheers
