    Pete's Vulcan

I posted a while ago in latest acquisitions that my daughter had bought me an Airfix Vulcan for my 78th birthday. Having finished the Humbrol Tempest I thought I'd better start on the Vulcan - the box was taking up too much space!. The only flat space I could find toe spread out the sprues was...

    Pete's Humbrol Tempest

Finished at last! A really nice kit, I think originally tooled by Heller. Cost me just £6 at the Coventry show a few years back.Everything fitted but some attachment points a bit weak. Fuselage halves fitted together really well for a change. Finished as Pierre Closterman's aircraft. The 'base'...

    Very puzzled and annoyed

The copter kit that I had a problem with had several short-shot sprues so was moulded at too low pressure or too cold.

    Very puzzled and annoyed

That would be good for a rusty barn find diorama. I had a similar occurrence with a Revell helicopter a few years ago. I put various small parts in Dettol overnight and some of them just disappeared! Pete

    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

I know hte wood would last if it was the same wood as the ship, but it would expand and contract with temperature and humidity. Wouldn't that split the gold leaf? Pete

    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

The gold wouldn't be affected but the underlying carved wood would expand and contract. Gilded furniture is normally glod leaf over gesso but that wouldn't withstand water for long. Pete

    Papa695s Airfix 1/72 Vickers Wellington Mk.1A/C

I've just been reading about Norman Johnson, flight engineer in a Lancaster of 106 squadron who although wounded in leg and shoulder, tried to crawl along the wing to extinguish an engine fire after an attack by an FW190. Two of the crew held his parachute as a safety line. The 190 returned to...
