This mornings effort was a pain in the a*s the instructions leave a lot to be desired and placing the decorations was a pure lottery but I did my best.

Amazing decorations. Now that you have almost done the hull I get the impression that painting the lower hull white would really enhance the the look. This even though I think the wood finish looks great I wonder if white would just lift the appearance.

Try some white tape or paper first to see if you like it.

Prefer your colours Brian. Still amazing me how much bling there actually is on this ship. Almost as bad as the current Oval Office…..

The amazing work continues Brian. I'm on the fence with the white hull, in some ways it's very stark with the decorations as well. Historically the white is probably correct, but it comes down to how you want your build to look. Ultimately you could paint it at the end if you decided to do so, or a buyer wanted it?

I am presuming that all that would have been gold leaf. How did it stand up to the corrosive salt.

Paul gold is inert so won't be affected by salt water that's why gold bullion found in ship wrecks doesn't degrade also it was reapplied on a regular basis.

The gold wouldn't be affected but the underlying carved wood would expand and contract. Gilded furniture is normally glod leaf over gesso but that wouldn't withstand water for long.
