Airfix 54mm Napoleonic French Line Infantry

I am even more delighted to announce that Fusilier 16 is done and ready for paint – Ta Da! After putting it off for quite a while I finally knuckled down to doing the hair. I knew I wanted something scruffy but I didn’t quite know what. I was inspired whilst watching an old documentary from 1967...

    Architectural Model -Mostly 3D printed

I posted my current freelance project in ‘What’s On The Bench’ a month ago, and I thought some of you might find the process of interest, so I’ve decided to give it a thread of its own. It is a model for a local architect, and I have created a digital model from their 2D plans with a view to 3D...

    Latest Acquisitions (2023)

A couple of little birthday presents to myself. I have the Italeri ambulance jeep in the stash and a great idea for a dio but the stretchers are rubbish and no figures. I was expecting to scratch them myself but these will do the trick. And the buckles are for the Fusiliers because I've run out...

Airfix 54mm Napoleonic French Line Infantry

Thank you everyone for the kind comments- much appreciated. I’ve done a bit more to our guys. They’ve been filled and filed and fettled and are now ready for the detailing of buttons and piping etc. Fusilier 15 has all of his kit already and I have made a start with fusilier 16’s pack-I...

Airfix 54mm Napoleonic French Line Infantry

Well a couple of weeks’ break turned into 5 months! But after a spell In the trenches, a LOT of 3D printing bits for people, wedding preparations and now an actual private commission(see What's on the bench), I’ve got the urge to get back into French dark blue, and hopefully the final furlongs...

    What's on the Bench 2023

thanks Richard. The images are not in perspective, just a sort of isometric- you can rotate the image any which way, without any optical illusion - that's only in done in renderings-ie 'artist's impressions' like this And yes there IS a slope, and the building doesn't go all the way through it...

    What's on the Bench 2023

I haven't posted anything for a while, been busy 3D printing stuff for people. but my latest project is a model for a local architect, for which I have created a digital model from their 2D plans with a view to 3D printing most of it. Here's the digital model-the scale is 1-60 to fit on a plinth...

    What's on the Bench 2023

I am happy to say that I met my deadline, although I fell short of my own expectations as far as the likenesses are concerned. I knew that smiles are hard to do convincingly so I avoided them , but I wish I had tried now... But I had 'managed the couple's expectations', so they were relieved it...

    What's on the Bench 2023

My son is getting married to a lovely girl in 10 days time and guess what he's asked me to make for the wedding cake? 10 days? nothing I like more than a deadline.... ;)

Clyno Vickers Motorcycle Machine Gun Combination 1/32 Scale

Well, I've done it! And in spite of the aggro I quite enjoyed the experience, although I'm not sure I would do another one immediately, even if I didn't have a backlog building up! Technically it's not a difficult kit, there isn't a huge number of tiny parts (although there are some) but it...

Clyno Vickers Motorcycle Machine Gun Combination 1/32 Scale

I think it’s ready for the wet stuff! I noticed that the upright bar holding the water box over the sidecar mudguard was too high so I cut it down- but by too much (DOH!), so I had to make a new one from brass rod. I repositioned the tripod and pinned it so I can keep the gun separate for...

    Iwo Jima 1-32 Scale

Since my last update I have been doing a little bit of gap-filling and detailing to some of the guys, so here's a couple of shots. I tried making the eyelets in the belt with a hot needle but I didn't like the effect so i decided to try 3D printing one... that's it in the centre of the pic...

Clyno Vickers Motorcycle Machine Gun Combination 1/32 Scale

Thanks chaps. Here are the pics. I didn't like the angle of the gun and I think it was because I had fitted the tripod incorrectly to the sidecar. So I took it off and that's my next challenge (sadly there isn't one included in the digital model), along with the groundsheet for underneath the...

Clyno Vickers Motorcycle Machine Gun Combination 1/32 Scale

Now that I’ve gotten over myself it’s time to start adding some detail. First up was the elevation wheel for the gun– it was easy to make a digital one and print it. It was also easier make an accurate digital model of the water box (rather than whittle one) which has to fit into the PE tray...

Clyno Vickers Motorcycle Machine Gun Combination 1/32 Scale

Well the Vickers Gun threw me a slight curve-literally I WAS thinking of putting it in hot water to straighten it out, but I was worried I might damage the fine detail of the trigger handles, so in the end I just sawed most of the way through the connection with the barrel and closed up the...

Clyno Vickers Motorcycle Machine Gun Combination 1/32 Scale

It didn't take long for me to lose my composure- I take back what I said about the instructions… They look impressive but they are don’t really tell you how to make the model, just what it’s supposed to look like-and even that is quite confusing. I made a start on the construction of the...
