    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Brian Does your model have boomkins? (sometimes bumkins) these are small booms that stand out from the prow on each side and provide an anchor point for the tacks. These are normally stiffened with what are called boomkin shrouds which hold the things rigid. The boomkins, at the scale of your...

    Ye Olde Drinkers

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments, this has renewed my interest in painting more little figures. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

I'm with Tim on this. How about offering it on consignment to a local antique shop? John

    Ye Olde Drinkers

Thanks very much gentlemen. It was a bit of a struggle with my shaky hands and antique eyes. Anyway I got it finished and here it is in all its glory. Photo in my backyard with a little sunshine. John

    Ye Olde Drinkers

So the boys are done. They all look much nicer at actual size rather than these scary blown up images. Just have to assemble the whole scene. John

Bravo for finishing the ratlines. You must be up to back stays and then getting the yards across. Every step is not only superbly executed but it makes the whole model more and more of an inspiration. John

    Amazon Policy Change

I have to say that here in the wilds of Quebec I never cease to be amazed how Amazon is able to deliver stuff to me, usually only 1 or 2 days after ordering. In addition I live without any neighbours and in the complete countryside at the end of a cul de sac. They can leave my packages on my...

    Pushing Back .......

Toto A very ambitious project with lots of space to fill. All the best with your inspiration and I will be keeping a watch on progress. Bravo John

    Ye Olde Drinkers

So I dug out the old Air Brush, for the first time in maybe ten years. Amazingly it still works, so I gave the little guys a quick zenithal ready to start the painting. You can start to see how nice these little guys are. John

    Ye Olde Drinkers

Thanks Jim. They're certainly resin and I think they are printed, but I can't be sure. Chivalry Miniatures have some really nice figures in a number of scales, if you happen to like medieval subjects. John

    Ye Olde Drinkers

Hi Guys Some of you older members may recall that I built This Inn some years ago in approx 28mm size I fancied having a go at painting some figures so I finally found these beautiful 28mm revellers from a company called Chivalry Miniatures. So I will blog my painting efforts here if my...

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Brian Good choice it would be a shame to hide all the detail of the gun deck. One thing to consider is that in battle conditions the crew would rig nets over the deck to protect the sailors from falling blocks and other tackle. These were rigged like tents hung over a tight line between the...

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

To answer Chris's question, this is how masts were stepped. Must be very frustrating to be missing parts. Bravo for your persistence Brian. John

Tim All the best for the operation. Half my golfing buddies have hips or other bits replaced. They have all come back swinging like new. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Brian I think you are further ahead than you think. A couple of levels more of shrouds, backstays, yards lifts, footropes , signal halliards and tacks and braces. Might sound a lot but should get through it well before Christmas. Good luck John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Hi Brian Very nice mouse and heart on the fore stay. I must say that I tended to cheat and make a mouse by just tying a reef knot and then seizing finer thread over the top. John

Brian That looks about right when the sails are not bent to the yards. John

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Hi Brian If you do pin the yards (which I think is a good idea) watch out for where you place the pins. The temptation is to space the top sail yard and the topgallant yard at roughly equal spacing up the masts however when the sails were not bent to the yards the top sail yard and the top...
