This is one that I've been threatening to do for some time.

The personnel will consist of two new kits (or rather, old Dragon kits):

A figure made up from Richard's spares:

And three completed figures, done some time ago:

That may not be the final line-up, depending on c**k-ups etc.

I've more or less prepared the first figure:

This is Dragon's Diefenthal kit. I didn't want to depict a particular convicted war criminal, so I've made a couple of changes so that he'll look like a generic officer figure.

Nice bunch of figures, the KG Hansen figure looks very interesting.
I haven't found any photos of grenadiers from the Liebstandarte wearing the reversible two-piece suit, only Volksgrenadiers. Not that the two couldn't have mixed at some point.
Jon.

Hi Jon

They'll be a bit of a rag-tag group in retreat I think. Allows for more possibilities.

Hi Ian

Not sure if they'll work out as a group. Perhaps the main idea is just to show a variety of uniforms. They could be a bunch of stragglers trying to get back to the border. I also have this Verlinden figure, based on a photo of Luftwaffe troops in the Ardennes:

In for a penny......

Looks an interesting mix Peter.
Trust the holiday was a success and you returned to a house still standing
John. !

Morning Peter

Super start, all refreshed and back on top form too.

Sounds like a great break and back at top speed too.

Great looking head for the start and a cool idea of a trio of stragglers with a real mix of uniforms

Its going to be even hotter so keep those paints wet this week.

Have a good day

Hi Steve

May be up to seven figures, or two vignettes. We'll see.

Had a great time, though it was rather hot - never thought I'd be able to say that about holidaying in this country. Took a couple of days to get the feel of painting again, but now it's just a matter of trying to beat the heat.

Hi Peter, sounds like you had a good holiday...I on the other hand always need a holiday from a holiday. :tears-of-joy:

Retreats are normally chaotic so a mix rag tag could work.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Richard. A bit weird going away before the school holidays started (we have only been able to go away in August for the last 16 years). Looked around on the beach and only saw copies of ourselves....

Here's how he's looking:

Nice detailing Peter.
I like the expression on his face, as if he is weighing up the situation .
John.

Morning Peter

Lovely shading on the top, an odd item but it will be a colourful counterpoint to all the camo and field grey.

How are the paints managing in the heat?

Hottest day of the year, with hotter to come!

I guess we will all be slowing down this week, though "don't go out doors" seems a little drastic from the met office!

"Sorry boss, the Met office said I can't come to work!"

Have a good day with the paints

Hello Early Birds!

John - I think he's a mean looking so and so. Might put a cigarette in his hand to add to the calculating expression.

Steve - Having to start work early to beat the heat, though I think I'm beginning to get used to it. The problem is the paint, but if I work fast enough it's a lot easier. So much for wet-on-wet though.

And just wait and see - we'll have a wet August and everyone will say what a rotten summer it was. The person I feel sorry for is Joe, our Jack Russell. He's finding it hard to cope, even after being doused in water. A quick walk around the block late in the evening and he's exhausted.

Have a good day, and stay cool.

Peter.

Glad you're back refreshed and raring to go Peter. Looks like a great set of figures.

Hi Mick. Will finish this figure, the stop for some newly arrived bust work (Sarnia).

Thanks for looking in Jim.

The first one's finished:

I decided on field grey trousers instead of camo as I wanted him to look as little like Diefenthal as possible and more like a Heer officer. The modelling of the trousers was also rather nice and deserved a bit of definition. The base is of course temporary.

I'll take a break from this project now, as I have a couple of new Sarnia busts to do for Peter G. More later.....
