discussion 1:32 P-47D Razorback

well ive been thumbing around here and noticed a bunch of 1:32's kickin arround here so i thought i might inquire on one. This is one i have made by Revell cerca 1990 (in my past revell has sucked) BUT ive never been one to dismiss any thing just on brand. upon opening the box i noticed this really cool looking fusilage with revits and all, i kind of eye balled the main pieces and it looks like things are going to fit pretty well. But my question is has any one built this one? good bad UGLY?im all pumped to do a 1:32 build while i fiddle with the B-17 foiling to keep the juices flowing. so here is some pics of the box art and guts of her.

sorry scratch the date on that i found the date stamp on the wing its 1982.

Actually, maybe someone will answer this one for me-I've noticed that older kits have raised panel lines/rivets & such whereas newer don't. Which is correct? I'm assuming that better manufacturing techniques have improved things but if I fancy making a plane I'd like to get it right. Sorry for hijacking your thread Jimp, but it seemed apt to ask as I can see quite prominant rivets on your Thud.

First Jimpman,sorry haven't built that one but I too have had some "difficult" experiences with some of revell's kits.

Patrick I'll start another thread on panels/rivets so we don't stop Jimpman getting his answer.

hi james. ive not had first hand experience of the revell thunderbolt ,but i know that some of their old 1/32 kits can be made into nice models with a bit of extra detailing in cockpit areas etc. Ive done the beaufighter and the corsair in 1/32, both old moulds dating from the early 70's. Both had raised panel lines and basic cockpits but fitted together ok and are a great basis for a bit of extra detailing.(see pics attached) The raised lines and rivets on the corsair actually came in very useful as when lightly sanded after painting gives a nicely weathered look as they show up lighter as if the paint had chipped off due to the sea air! So id say go for it , youll end up with a great looking impressively sized jug ,just dont forget to post some pics. cheers tonylane:

well ive started into it and fount some "revellitis" ill post pics in a bit. the wing to jug fit poor the gap is soo big its like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. thankfully there is putty for that. i also decided i did not like the "brail" rivets they started to bug me as i was handeling it. but to respect the work that was put into it i went over it with trumpiters rivet tool and scribed in new pannel lines. also im going with the kit decals the Bonnie. the kit art shows olive drab but i found a site showing differnt. any help on that.Camouflage & Markings: William Dunham's Thunderbolts SOOOO confused. oh yeah going foil with it.
