For some reason its also called Tony !

Good price and free delivery and to me a very interesting looking aircraft. Cant see anybody has built one yet. There are two paint schemes, the mottled green and a plainer one. You can but decals for the green but no one has the 1/48 scale. Looks a real labour of love to hand paint but maybe worth a go.

It's here

https:tongue-out3:/www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/product/1-48-kawasaki-ki-61-id-hien-tony-61115-tamiya

and here and you can see the two colour schemes

I shall sleep on but it but I do love doing something a bit different. Anyone else looked at this ?

That’s from the American/Allied standardised nicknames for Japanese planes, to make it easier for pilots etc. to identify them rather than having to memorise things like “Kawasaki Ki-61” vs. “Nakajima Ki-84” vs. “Tachikawa Ki-36” etc. which all sound very similar to Westerners.

Incidentally, the Mitsubishi A6M was officially the “Zeke” rather than the “Zero” to the Allies, but the latter was used as well.
