So my Christmas prezzy is complete. This is another 'New tool' Airfix kit which I rather like. It goes together quite well, except my tail fin was bent.

Anyway, this is XN793 with this example flown by Wing Co. JB Mitchell CO of No. 92 Squadron, RAF Germany, Gutersloh, August 1972.

92 squadron has a long a varied history with a number of famous pilots serving with the squadron, still in existence today, but without aircraft I think.

The model is finished using Alclad. I've used this before but not for a complete finish. It's been a lesson, but now has me thinking about one of those really shiny F104's.........and anything else I can 'Alcladise' (I made a word up there)

So, the result of a rather fast build - well fast for me.

Wow!! This silver colour looks magnificent Colin. I really like it ;)

I love the "weathering" or the different shades at the end of the wings....

This is really excellent Colin! For a start it looks bigger than 1/72, more like 1/48 & the finish is superb. Top job :)

Such a cool build at a small scale, I remember building one as a kid, and the silver paint looking like a big sack of poo! It looks brilliant. Well done!

Very nice I would have said it was 48th if you didn't say well done must try this alclad stuff

Thanks all for the comments. Alclad is great stuff and not difficult to use. The Lightning turned out ok, many lessons were learned, and still more to learn I'm sure. But there are many nmf planes out there just waiting to be built.........

Yes Colin, like it! More alcalisation please... Wait I made a new word up too!

Fantastic looking lightning Colin i love the way youve weathered it , just right in my eyes, all too often we see Nat metal aircraft that are modelled to look like a highly polished warbird when in reality very few aircraft ever had the chrome like shine , usually just a dulled silver .cheers tony

So do I. Mine was a matchbox kit I think. This is the first time I've done a Lightning since then - bit of a trip down memory lane for me.

I like that, and will probably steal it for future use. Alcladise and Acladisation, an action and a result.

Thanks again everyone for having a look. I wonder what a 1:48 Lightning would look like ???

Nice I reckon, when I get this WWII bug out of my system it will be one I'll tackle. Am I right in thinking airfix released a new tool in 1/48?
