This looks lovely. The body has really come out nicely

I'm chugging along with some small but time consuming bits...


The dash in the real car is crackle paint which is next to impossible to replicate at 1/8 scale.


I Googled a picture of crackle paint texture and printed a waterslide decal. In the photo's it looks a bit brown/red, which it should be, but in reality it's not quite so pronounced.


The gauges are photo's of proper DBR1 instruments and the eagle eyed will spot that the actual car was running at the time - hence the rev counter reading...


Switches are white metal items and hair brush bristles (!)


Gauge bezels are thin slices from my better half's make up pot lids etc. (I didn't tell her...)


The dashboard lights are the ends of small paintbrush handles mounted on a little plastic diamond shape, all painted black.


The iconic side vents were a real pain, but they are in now, as is a good deal of the engine bay firewall.


Rivets also now added to the door tops and screen surround.


Radiator next, then the front engine-chassis frame.

A bit more...


Starting on the rear inner frame/cage now.


All made from ally tubing of different gauges.


The upper part has been test-fitted into the car to check position etc, but none of the cage will be added until it's almost complete.


I've also added more of the interior frame and the rear torsion bars. Gear selector gate and rod now also fitted.

Very nice build. Are you going to do a wash inside the cabin floor. A dark wash will really enhance the edges

Now looking at this this seems a bold venture but from what I've seen and read you are quite the dab hand at this scratch building.


What I would like to know only for knowing sakes do you have the blueprints for the racer seeing as you can scratch build such exact replicas of the parts needed.??

I do have some excellent plans and drawings of the car as well as umpteen books and mags.


Google images has helped a lot but I've recently been sent some great pics of the real car by a previous race driver of it!


He's also bought the model - and I haven't even finished it yet.


A requirement of the transaction is that I respray it in the colour the car was/is when he raced it.


It involved a lot of very careful masking, and a good deal of nail biting!


Aston Martin were extremely helpful in tracking down the correct paint code.


All done now though, so back on with the build.

This looks really good.... Did you work at AML as you're doing a dammned good job!


I have dug up about a hundred parts for these in our old back yard, round the back of AML in Newport Pagnell. They destroyed all the build shops that these were built in a few years ago, my brother worked in the machine shop, all that's been pulled down, and flattened now. All that's left is the main showroom, which has been vamped up, and a small unit on the same side of the road for refurb and service.


The rest was destroyed and levelled for the new Tesco supermarket! Which was going to be built on our back gate, so we moved to Buckingham!

I've built up the rear cage, added the fuel lines, breather, gearbox oil line and brake pipes and now the cage is fitted.


I've also made the seats and fitted them.


I had to print my own cotton fabric as I couldn't get the correct pattern material in 1/8 scale.

Rarely indeed does one find such a technically sound and uber dedicated modeler such as yourself. It's heartwarming to know you guys are out there, you give the "Art" of modeling a good name.

I've built up the major part of the front frame from brass tube and section as it really needs to support the front of the car and engine.


It took a while, but it's now done and painted but only test-fitted into the body.


Suspension and front gubbins next...
