A small update today.


I've now got some body parts back from my friend and will be getting started in the next few weeks in earnest.


I've still got a book to finish and my publisher is doing his nut - 6 months late already...

More done on trimming and fitting the body parts together after a 3-week holiday break.


It doesn't look as if I've done very much but getting the three main sections in alignment and fitting neatly has been a chore due to different amounts of shrinkage on each of the vac form parts as they cooled down.


There's still quite a lot of smoothing and sanding of different parts, plus making and fitting a removable floor panel before any paint is applied.

I've given the body a wet sanding with 1400 grit, a wash and dried it with a hairdryer, and now it has three body coats.


I'm inclined to leave the finish as it is and not clear coat it, as it's pretty glossy already and I don't want a 'wet-look' shine to it.


I might even satin clear it to tone it down a bit.


Now I can get on with the chassis and interior tub.


Also, a few pics with the engine 'in situ' to see how it will look.

Beautiful is the only word for it Roy. Exceptional skills and obviously many, many hours of work gone in to this already.


Magnificent and a 'Great Build' if ever there was one.

I've started adding the front end details - the interior tub will be next.


Light buckets made from plastic tube, the lights are resin castings I made for my Jaguars.


Getting there with the front.


I've also made a dashboard support from some extra body parts and the dash was made from thick card and 'Fimo', and then vac-formed.

nice work, I have to ask, I was always told not to sand and polish metallic or pearl paints. I would be interested to know if thats what you did here and if you only sanded the coats underneath then sprayed a final un-touched coat on top?

I love astons ever since Dad used to drop me off at school in his db4 then he flogged it and got the same renualt 4 he had before the Aston oh the shame of it all lol


I do admire your skill set scratch building is not for the faint hearted

I have to say I think roy is one of the best scratch builders I've come across, and I'm on many forums now, I am always in awe of what he does and yet he thinks he's nothing special, boy is he wrong. Wish I had a tenth of his skills.

Honestly, I'm just a plastic-sticker like everyone else - I just have time to fiddle about, working out ways to make bits.


I'm on the interior tub now and it's going quite well.


Reference is difficult to find for this car, back in the '50's - '60's as most stuff shows how the car looks now.


The tub is only test fitted for clearances etc...
