That's the first figure finished:

After the personal gear, there was just the hands and Bren gun to do. As I mentioned above, the finish on the smaller parts was a bit rough due to mould debris, but I think everything looks reasonably OK. I've put him on a temporary base and the last job was to provide a sling for the Bren.
The next figure looks a bit more complicated....

Hope your daughter and the little one are doing OK.
Figure looks superb. Even by your very high standards this one is very good. As for the proportions, he looks fine to me.

Yup... certainly looks better with the equipment around his waist. I guess the shape of the waist was to compensate for these items. The stance is like Urquhart with a bren gun.:smiling2:

On to the next figure, now built and ready for painting:

This figure was meant to be carrying a PIAT, but the parts supplied were in very poor condition (as was the ammo carrier), so I've opted for a Lee Enfield instead (this is a Verlinden spare as the kit version was a bit on the skinny side).
The figure was quite tricky to put together, there being very heavy casting blocks on everything, so quite a lot of chopping and filling was required. The details on the boots and on the lower edges of the smock were badly cast, so they were sanded off and replaced with metal foil and etched parts (tabs, bootlaces and gaiter straps). I'm using the kit water bottle, entrenching tool and bayonet, and a Verlinden hand replaces the kit one, which was grasping a handle.
The only head from the set that would fit was the same as used on the first figure, so I sawed off the beret and attached it to a Reedees spare. This has now been painted:

Shame the castings are fighting you mate.This one looks better anatomically.Arnhem era is a big interest of mine.The lee enfield would be the mark 4 version at this date.Shame the PIAT was a disaster.No sculpting for me as ive got the lurgy and rough as a bears bottom.

I'm really enjoying doing these figures - there's an awful lot of quality there. It is a shame about some of the casting issues, but we'll get there. I'll try and find a later rifle, but if I can't he's stuck with this one. Could have a Sten instead I suppose.......

Always feel a slightly elated when I get a bit of camo done - makes the rest seem a lot easier. As with the first figure there was an awful lot of detail to consider, but the process was none the less quite enjoyable.
