discussion 21st century models stuka

hi all, just finished this and thought i would show you guys. this model is 1/32 scale and was bought for £9.00 from a local toy fair and is made by 21st century toys. had never heard of them before but at the price, i bought a bf-109g as well. the kit was an absolute nightmare to get together as nothing really fits properly but the wings and fuselage are screwed together which made life easy whilst glueing together. lots and lots of filler was used and the kit comes with all your parts in individual bags not on sprues and have no numbers whatsoever.instruction are simple but decal and painting instructions are awful so a lot of it was guess work. decals are very brittle.

Fantastic job andrew , ive got one of these in the stash as well as the bf109g. I did the Macchi mc205 veltro by them and it was very good too. Seeing this is making me want to get mine out and start it! cheers tony

These kits make more than decent models and for the price are fantastic value.

Like the boys write, these cheap 1/32 21st Cent. kits do make up into nice models......and we all luuurve the pilots!

Strange you had trouble with the fit, the Stuka I did on here a couple of years ago went together O.K.

I still have a 21st Veltro and Bf109 left in my stash to go at, as and when....

I noticed a Veltro went for £17.00 on bay the other day. They must be getting scarce now!

I did the Battle of Britain version for my Stuka, so I still have the big snake decals in my stash. I just didn't fancy trying to put those on my model, but you have done a great job on them......

I hope you are still on course for Cosford, it won't be long now!

I don't know how Andrew did his snakes,they look great. When I did mine I cut the decal into four or five manageable segments as I couldn't see anyway of getting the whole thing on in one go.

To be honest Steve, I just baulked at the very idea of trying....That's why I opted for the easier B.O.B version.Perhaps Andrew will let us into the secret of serpent sticking!

That's an excellent Stuka Andrew, you've made the panel lines 'pop' out really well! I've heard the 21st Century stuff derided, but you've made this look as good as a much dearer Hasegawa offering.

I got this kit and the BF109 G14 in the stash to do. Hope they come out as good as this

well thanks for the positive comments, there is no secret to the decals other than repeated micro set/sol and even then they took some gentle rubbing with cocktail stick to get them to sit down in the panel lines. it did not take too much at all to break them and had to keep wetting under them whilst posistioning as they would not slide around to get them in the right place,i had to keep lifting and placing them. there are a few tips i will offer to anyone building this kit:dont fit the filter on the side of the fuselage until the end after you have put the decals on,it will not go down over it,i had to patch up with a paint brush. also the screw holes in the wings and fuselage have tiny plastic covers,they are all different thicknesses but i did not realise until far too late and would of saved myself a hell of a lot of sanding down(only one is obvious as it has a panel line in the middle of it. numbers on them and on the instructions would of made all the difference.

Andrew, I had forgotten about those screw hole plugs.....the only one I got right on both the models I did, was the one you mention.....

yes ron and they seemed to be a rubbery plastic, i ended up filling a few of them with superglue, on a side note,i did not realise that with a nice fine sandpaper you could polish up superglue and it can go clear,handy for small windows.

I didn't know this either. Will come in very handy when come to build my VC10 K2

I've given up on them. Even if you get them in the correct place you still need to fill them. I just wack some Milliput in the hole and then file/sand it flush. Frankly it's easier than arseing about with the little "discs".
