Heres the 21st century toys Macchi mc205 Veltro in 1/32 scale , a kit ive done before but wanted to do again as its such a brilliant looking aircraft. It was originally designed to be sold already assembled and screws and clips together . It can still be assembled like a normal kit but theres obviously a few things to sort . It is a little toy like and simplified in places - the undercarriage is designed to retract and the canopy opens - so these areas will need rectifying. Nevertheless it should make a nice looking model with a bit of bashing .

Cheers Joe , its not the most detailed cockpit but luckily the supplied pilot is excellent so he’s going in , which will fill it up nicely and cover up most of it . The problem I’m going to have is sorting his seat harness - the Italian belts are notoriously weird with their chains and stuff and no matter how hard I looked I cant seem to find exactly how they looked once fastened . The best I got was that it was a three point harness , the lower chain coming up between the pilots legs and fastening somehow to the shoulder belts . As for the two chains at the side and the large leather pad I’m still no wiser as to where these will be .

I've worn some uncomfortable harnesses in my time, but those Italian chains certainly do not look ideal for the family jewels!

Cheers joe , yes thats the info I found , still not sure about the chains on the side but once hes in the cockpit you probably wont be able to see down there anyway . And yes , I would want to come to a sudden stop wearing that harness !!

Dam, I'm going to have to try harder than my paltry little Airfix kit, there are some serious builds going on in this forum.

Loving the subject and I think it's great you're going to put the pilot in - looking forward to seeing it progress.

Started with the cockpit and pilot . Its just had a basic paint job so far , a bit of shading still to come but I’m not going mad adding extra detail as the pilot will cover most of it up as its a very narrow cockpit . The pilot has been started but has a lot more to go on yet . Once the pit is finished I can look at sorting the undercarriage wells which are really simplified to accommodate the working u/c feature .

About the seatbelts. In all my many, many, many books on Regia Aeronautica aircraft, there is, of course, not one picture of a pilot in the seat showing the belts on (or much of what they look like 'unattached')

Tell me about it chris , ive managed to figure out that the two belts go over the shoulder and connect to the chain coming up between the legs . Another thing thats so difficult is researching the colour of the uniform . 99% of the period colour pics on the net have been colourised and you just dont know which is accurate ( see example below , same pic, totally different interpretation)

The chain between the legs is probably the reason why there aren't any photos of the pilots wearing them!

A plane I've never heard of and a kit that is certainly different. Looks as if you're off to a good start. Lucky the pilot is good, so often a weakness with these type of kits.

Pilot is looking good Tony. I think the brownish shade is appropriate for flying attire
