A good mate and school friend of my wife passed away earlier this year, but my wife couldn't attend the funeral. A few weeks ago she received word that a memorial service was to take place at a Private school nr. York, where the lady was a teacher.....

As it was a 200+ mls. round trip, we decided to make a w/end of it and booked in at a camp site close by. Right next door to the site is a 15 ml. cycle track which runs along an old railway linking York with Selby. It's tarmac and flat, great for bus pass holders!

Anyway, on Sunday, as we were trundling along we came across this set up on the site of an old station. The little shed was full of cakes, sweets and stuff, and on a little table, an honesty box. There was a giant flask for drinks, again with an honesty box on a table.

We have probably all seen eggs being sold by the roadside, but I have never seen so much stuff laid out relying on the honesty of passing punters....

It cheered my wife up no end when she saw the little green 'Trust Hut'!

So all is not lost, good people. Keep smiling.

Here are a few shots of the place......

Ron

It is nice to see these days as there is so little trust in the world anymore...

Yes nice to see Ron.

Some farmers here in the outer parishes selling spuds etc. stiil have open boxes for payment I like it.

As you get near to St Helier, the Town, they all have locked boxes with a slot for money. The whole thing bolted to a wall or post. Sad.

I love a bit of trust, it's in short supply these days.

Cheers for sharing something good Ron.

Tony.

A good old "honesty shop" ..... brilliant, never thought i'd see the likes of that these days.

Great to hear you were in our neck of the woods ron (yorkshire) and a nice touch finding the honesty hut. On my travels round the vast area that is my companies local delivery zone we see quite a few by the roadside its amazing what you can get , in fact i picked up a bag of logs for burning in my chimenea from a place only a couple of miles away from our house , again with a honesty box , hope you both had a nice break , cheers tony
