discussion Advice needed - Stripping acrylic paint of figures

Good evening all , I`ve got some 1/35 US dragon figures still on their sprues which I painted many moons ago when I first started modelling again I would like to use these as painting practice and if they come out ok maybe for a dio or vignette , I`ve got some bleach which I use for stripping chrome bits but will it strip acrylic paint off ? if not what is the cheapest house hold stuff that will do the job

tried the search but with no luck

I got some paint stripper from John and "the shop", worked a treat.

+1 here for Purisol also recommended by John - worked a treat. Presume there are cheaper/less specialised options but it worked well for me.

If you only want them as practice figures, could you not just prime them over the old paint and go from there?

As for the bleach, only one way to find that out. Paint something you don't mind throwing away, leave is a week or three then chuck it in the bleach and see what happens. Then Let us all know what happens...

yes mister muscle window cleaner fill something that will take all the men put in the morning and by night they should come out nice and clean and ready to party

Cheap brake fluid will remove acrylic paint. Just pop the figures in and leave overnight then rinse with water. More stubborn bits can be removed using a toothbrush.

I forgot to mention that you can re-use brake fluid again and again. I just use a bit of tissue in the top of the brake fluid container to filter out the larger particles of paint when I pour it back from whichever container I've used to soak the bits I've cleaned.

better still, TESCO multi purpose cleaner (white economy bottle) less toxic and cheap , just dump the figure in it for 30 mis and gently use an old toothbrush...

removes without damaging the plastic
