Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon 1b

Thread owner
Well the replacement canopy arrived from Airfix , good customer service . On opening the packet though , the replacement has a few marks on it too 🙄. IMG_6730.webpIts not as bad as the original just a few blemishes and what looks like a small scratch on the inside . Its now had a coat of Klear to hopefully fill the scratch and hide the blemishes a bit . While i was at it I thought Ive nothing to lose trying to polish up the original so it was out with the nail buffer sticks . After a good polishing it came out ok so it had a coat of Klear too and now I can pick the best one of the two for the model.

That took a while to arrive Tony! At least now you can actually finish the Typhoon.
Cheers joe, Ive started to get the decals on now , I intended to use the decals for the yellow wing leading edges but they just wouldnt bend round so ive resorted to painting them IMG_6727.webp

Looking good with those decals Tony, if I was a decal I wouldn't like to bend over such a tiny leading edge either - shame the new canopy has some issues too, hope you'll get it to work. Have fun, cheers

Decals now all on and panel lines lightly accented . The rocket rails have been attached and its now had a couple of mist coats of matt varnish . Next is adding the undercarriage and exhausts then a bit of light exhaust staining. Heres the pic - illustrating the 1 square foot principle ! IMG_6747.webp

Hang on Tony, didn't you post a 1/32 kit in Latest Acquisitions? That won't fit in your square foot!
Pete

That's a stunning build - very nicely done indeed. I am rather find of this kit.

Back to the bench now after a short break , the undercarriage is on and the rockets have been painted up . Ive added light exhaust and gun staining and a bit of staining behind the rocket rails. The rockets had a fuse wire attached to the back end which was plugged in to the rails to arm them so they were left hanging after loading to be connected just before take off .
I drilled each rocket and ( ironically ) used 5 amp fuse wire to depict the tails .
The rockets and canopy have now been fitted , a tiny bit of chipping added on the wings and round the cockpit and its finished. Its been a great little kit to build and ive really enjoyed it . Heres a few pics to finish off and ill do a completed thread tomorrow, thanks to all who’ve been watching , cheers tonyIMG_6779.webpIMG_6780.webpIMG_6781.webpIMG_6782.webpIMG_6785.webp
