Airfix quality control

Makes me wonder just how many manufacturers look at forums like this one - and how much notice they take. Aren't we a sort of free quality control resource?
Think we are indeed, I remember watching a tv programme some years ago where a company asked a kit builder to see what a new kit was like, all unpaid of course, he just had the kit. Thinking about it i'm pretty sure it was Airfix.

Got fed up with waiting for my spares to arrive so I have ordered another kit from John so fingers crossed I should be able to finish and when my spares arrive I have another kit to sell on or keep for a rainy day.

Good luck with that, I really hope that this one is better.

Actually Peter, you're not the only in person to have issues.

I saw a build elsewhere using the newest 1/72 mosquito kit, where there was a massive gap in the middle of the usual fuselage with open air between the two end sections...

Hope your get it sorted in the end.

Sure the TV program showed that in design and how the boss thought it was good ?

John,
there can be a big difference between what you design - and what is produced! Ambiguity, laziness & pure incompetence ( on both sides ) can lead to some pitiful results ( difference between First & Third Angle projection drawings can spoil your whole day! )

If this is the 3d info you are basing your model on ( i.e. airfix designer ) then I am not surprised they have a few niggles

I am also mildly confused ...... when the last 1:72nd aircraft was being designed , there was a shadow displays stand , and I am sure I heard '' it will be used on all future releases too'' ........... i don't remember seeing a stand with this model.

Dave,
no doubt compounded by having the production carried out in a different country along with all that brings. Its a shame, perhaps some things will change now the container charges have sky rocketed.

That's a typical result of an IGES transformation! If for example, you 3D scan an object, the resulting data may be passed through IGES to give data in the form that you need. The missing or corrupted data results in these large gaps in the surfaces. Real skill & time is needed to repair these 'models' into a usable form. I was never any good at it, but I had some guys working for me who were really good. Odd, I thought that in the years I have been retired, they would have improved on this!

I have seen people make better 3d scans using digital camera photographs than the lidar results for the biplane that they showed.
It looks like they do it as fast as possible, not as good as possible.
