Hi Ross
Great pre-shading.....more or less how I do it as well....
I’ve found I can enhance the effect even further by ghosting a slightly faded version of the main colour in the middle of the panels outlined by shading. Just ghosted though, no hard edges.....

Thanks for sharing your pre-shade-method here Ross, I haven't done much aircraft in years so I learned something from it ;)

Cheers, Steven

Hi Ross,
Completely missed your build, along with many others!
Glad you sorted the canopy issue...paint coming along nicely :thumb2:

Hi Ross
As someone who has failed many times with preshading that method and the photos are really useful. Thanks
Glad the canopy is sorted. We all have those moments when the old brain just has a off day.

Richard, thanks mate.
Steven, thank you.
Tim, exactly, I like the control it gives you.
Steven, glad to help mate, that's what forums are all about.
Si, No problem mate, welcome.
JimR, sad to say they are becoming more frequent though mate.

Well almost a perfect mask and paint. No noticeable bleed through but in one spot the paint lifted. I will have to fix that and fix up areas that weren't covered around the cockpit. Anyway now that the bottom is done I can stick the wheels on. NOW there's no mistake on what kind of plane it is.

Ross.
Glad to see I'm not the only one to attempt inverted fitting ! Think the shading is remarkable, I'd be too scared to even thing about attempting it. Well done.
John.

Hey Ross, never doubted it was a Stuka from the beginning. :thumb2:

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Ross here's me looking forward to the build, I just catch up and it's nearly completed. Cracking work on the cockpit and painting.

Blimey, it looks like a bird already and it got paint! Pre shade is nice and subtle, as it should be mate. And neatly painted camouflage scheme. Excellent base for weathering!

Cheers

Tim, thanks mate.
Si, cheers.
Jim, :smiling2:
JohnR, that's the beauty of doing it this way mate, if you don't like it you can just use another layer of paint to make it disappear.
Richard, :tongue-out:
Ian, you know planes, 90% of the build is the cockpit, once that's done it just flys.
Paul, thanks mate.
Wouter, cheers mate.
Joe, thanks
Steve, thank you.

Well I've painted the exhausts and the guns, applied the few decals. The decals were very nice, settled down nicely with an application of Micro Set. Then it all went pear shaped as I applied the last gloss coat over the decals. It appeared all whiteish and dusty, the only thing I can think of was it was just to hot and I was a bit to far away with the AB. Dug out my dwindling supply of Future and it seems to have fixed all but one spot, which I will try to incorporate into the weathering. Anyway to the pictures.

Here's the area that didn't get fixed.

You can just see it along the wing join.

As you can see one of the pigs is flying backwards, I haven't been able to find a picture of this plane from that side that shows the pig but I would think logically he should match the other one and fly with his nose to the front.

cheers
Ross

Well I finally picked this up again.

I've decided to go with the closed cockpit as the look of the open canopy just didn't look right to me. That being said some of the internal ribbing of the closed canopy wasn't painted because I didn't mask it, so I picked up this masking pen and have done the following.

airfix stuka 10c.jpg

I'll paint the ribs with a brush once it dries.

I've removed the little door thingy in the bottom of the plane and I'm happy to see that you can see right through.

airfix stuka 10.jpg

Added some chipping in places and added some soot around the guns.

I might actually finish this :tongue-out2:

Ross.
Funny how we see things in a different perspective.........
Maybe I can't see the finner points of a wingy builder but quite like it open , the detail of the cockpit to me is great. Love the chipped paint work on the wing. Looks good .
John .

Hi Ross
Looking very good. Like John I think the chipping is spot on. Just done enough to look realistic.
