Hi folks, a question for alclad users, is there any other airbrush cleaner that will clean the remenants of alclad out your airbrush, or do you specifically have to use alclads own.

Could I use nail varnish remover with acetone to do the same job?

I dunno about using acetone - hopefully that's your better half's supply you're considering using!

I've used nail varnish remover to soak a nozzle in that was blocked, don't know about using it on any of the seals.

After using alclad in my iwata tr2 I immediately strip it down clean and flush all parts with normal airbrush cleaner and dental brushes reassemble flush n blowback job done. Every now and then I put it through my ultrasonic cleaner for a deep clean. I've heard some people use windscreen cleaner but not sure how effective this would be but have considered it myself. I've been using acetone nail varnish remover for ages through my brushes and they are all still ok, just wondering if the acetone will clean the alclad.

I've always used Alclad cleaner when using Alclad colours, never had any issues and certainly don't have to strip my airbrush down after use.

I have a H & S 'something' airbrush and use cellulose thinners for cleaning after Alclad and am always amazed at the stuff that comes out.

I use cellulose thinner for the job. Works a treat. A lot cheaper than the Alclad cleaner and does not stink as bad. Yes it smells but I found the Alclad one really evil! (even with a mask on).


I don't think window wash will do it as there is only a small amount or spirit in it. It works for acrylics though.

lacquer/cellulose will do the trick. If you can't find that, use Mr Colour cleaner

Lacquer thinners is a mix of solvents and varies considerably from one manufacturer to another. I would imagine an acetone based nail varnish remover might be worth a go with Alclad. If it doesn't work just about any lacquer thinners certainly will, as others have already said
