Scale Model Shop

An old hobby renewed

Thank you, John.

I live in a pretty humid place and I just put a paint job on a Volkswagen beetle and the paint turned cloudy. I’ve tried polishing with course and fine and finish polishing compounds from Tamika but nothing works. Do I have to strip the paint start over?
Old Beetle or new style? I had an older Beetle. Rust - hidden by the outspend orange colour!!!

As Chris aka @boatman said - Andy one of our prolific modellers is also an auto paint man. Hopefully he'll see this and be able to give you a pointer.

Hi Johnny

It's only £10 a year, but you also get 5% discount from the shop

The help, advice and very important is the help and support outside of modelling is astonishing. I and Julie have had numerous health issues. The help and support has been SO helpful. Come on board you will not regret it.

Welcome to the forum, if i had to wait that long for a reply on here I'd think I was here alone

In my earlier reply I assumed that the beetle on question was a model. Having just read Waspie's (Doug) post I'm wondering. Are we talking about a model or the real thing?

Actually good question Jim. I did my usual thing and 'assumed'!!! (The mother of all **** ups!!!!!)

I’m a disabled vet with to much time on my hands so I decided to try scale modeling again. I used to build models as a kid but slowly moved away from it.

I recently got back into it and I must say the model of today are MUCH better quality than in the 70s.
Welcome Johnny,
For the return, we get with new friends, help with model questions that come with immediate answers, help and support for when things go bad outside the model world, that works out to about 0.25cents a week.
And as a vetran myself I think that is cheap money for the bacon & beans you can get served.

Actually Jim, reading back I think he is referring to a kit Beetle!! The mention of Tamiya should have given me a clue!!!!
Doh!!! Blew it again.

Can you paint in a dryer location at home, or not?
I really cannot paint in a different place. That’s less humid, but I did strip all the paint and start completely over which worked out better for me. I was able to use a better primer and wait till the humidity level was down around 45% and it came out awesome. Thank you guys very much for your input and suggestions, I really do appreciate this.

Welcome and I hope that Johns generous offer of a free month helps you decide. We really are a helpful bunch and do all we can to help a fellow plastic butcher however we can.

Definitely a model.

You know what I’ve already got more replies back from just this one thread since I registered on this forum. Since it’s not much money, I’m gonna go ahead and commit.
Thanks guys.
