Hello,
here are finally the photos of my finished Hurricane.
I built the plane from the soft plastic wargaming model from Zvezda. I milled out the fuselage and built a cockpit in scratch. I also "deep-drawn" the glass parts myself so that the cockpit canopy could be shown open. There are also a few other small things (landing gear struts, rudders folded in, etc.) that I refined or scratch-build.
I used the kit decals as markings and made the missing ones (serial number & wasp on the nose) myself.
The original plane flew in No.1 Squadron, the pilot was A.V.Clowes.
Thank you for watching.
Best regards,
Andreas

Not in my area of interest but I marvel at all the extra work done in such a tiny model, excellent work.
One question if I may bearing in mind I know nothing in this area - why is the roundel on the fuselage sides placed between different characters?

Fantastic work Andreas.
Thank you Ian!

Thank you. The Characters are the tactical markings of the plane. JX is the code for the 1st Squadron and "B" the letter for the individual aircraft.

Unit practice, AFAIK. Some squadrons put the roundel between the squadron and plane’s letter on both sides, others always painted one letter ahead and two behind it, or two ahead and one behind, like here. I think there were also squadrons that always put the squadron letters ahead (or behind) the roundel, so it would be AB◉C on one side but C◉AB on the other, for example.

I have followed this from the beginning Andreas. Considering the scale and the model you started with it is an incredible build.

Thank you all for the kind words.

@Stefee, I didn't really understand your question at first. :tongue-out3:

Since there is no photo of the right side of this plane, I looked for another Hurricane on Google and copied the code breakdown. That doesn't seem to have been the best idea.

However, it doesn't seem to be really clear what the breakdown really was. At least there are various museum planes etc. with this coding with different interpretations.

My J-XB is not one of them though... so it might be completely wrong!
In my defense, I have to say that this is my second aircraft model in 25 years - and in the future I will better deal with things that I know more about! :smiling5:

Yep,an excellent job there Andi,
Nice one :thumb2:

Thanks for clearing up the code letters position conundrum. Not being from a aviation/ military background I was curious as to the reason.

That’s a cracker, especially in that scale and with the starting kit you used. Top job :thumb2:

This is definitely the best 1/44 scale Hurricane I've ever seen, well done buddy, she's certainly a build to be proud of.. :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:
