Hi guys, well! I did manage to get through a few sections today, better than I hoped.

Mounted the (insert own expletive), machine gun and a few odds and ends, grenade launchers with accompanying PE! The antenna platform is now in place. (Two handed!! Mike but only just) Sneaky - those legs. The forward leg is a tad shorter than the rear legs!! (I surprised myself by noticing!! Awarded myself a cuppa for that one!! :rolling: ;)
I deliberately kept a piece of PE back as it fits over the lens part on the left of the MG. Figured it may well make painting later on a tad more difficult!

Next up was the fitting the hatch cover over what I assume is the commanders position. (Should have paid more attention at Bovington).
Main gun mount thingumy:flushed: was also attached.

Similar pic but hatch closed!!

Bottom of turret was fitted and then after another cuppa - mounted on the hull.
Even if I say so myself - it's starting to look like a tank!!
IMG_0856.JPG

Silly ole SWIMBO says 'Oh you've nearly finished then'!!! At that point I showed her the rest of the bits that still need fitting!!
"Ahhhhh" say she!! You'll be a while then!

Won't be working on it the next few days but will be popping in as I'm on dog sitting duties now post surgery.

The etch that fits over the lens - mask the lens and the three small ones next to it. paint and remove masking, then add the etch using pva, leave to dry and gently dry brush. This can be done after full paint job, but remember to mask.

Looking good Doug, your having ago .
Wibble AKA Mike is the man , just follow what he suggests.
As for pe I use what I can , any soldering required I just pass on .

Hello Doug,
See you are having fun with the TES. You are almost there with the Mg mount. You might have to do a three hand ballancing act when trying to get the antennae shelf in place. I used a slow drying tube cement on the legs and then flipped it over and located the legs into their location on the turret and once happy just held it in place untill the cement started to set.
Also, the turret may sit down on the hull at the rear, which will interfere with the fit of the bar armour. I put a shim of 10 thou plasticard on the turret ring and cut off the locating pegs for an easier fit.
Other than that you are on track to the finish line.
As an aside our little gem goes in to be spayed in a couple of weeks, I pity the vet when she gets hold of him, she can be a bad tempered little ....
Mike.
Mike, thanks for the heads up on the legs, handy timing.
I think the vet may have a similar thoughts when they meet madam. She's how could I put it - feisty!!! (And that's me being polite)!!
Doing pretty good Doug.Im very clumsy when it comes to tracks especially indy links.I summed up the courage to do them on a Dragon Sherman Firefly until i realised id put one complete set of tracks on back to front.Bit of mud build hid most of my error. As for Photo etch boy it fights me everytime and not a fan of it.
Carry on Carruthers.Enjoy.
Richard
Cheers Richard, I have an admission to make - I enjoyed the tracks!!! Going to research muddying the beast. Something to do over the next few days!! Weathering is a new thing since the 60 when I last dabbled as a very young teenager!!

Yeah me too, I sampled her bad temper when she had the puppy teeth, and still got the scars and tendon trouble in my forefinger.

Thanks again Mike, yet again more sage advice which I will use. :thumb2:

Not just me then, (teething probs). I have a loverly hole that is kinda healing in my left hand - right on the fleshy bit above my thumb!!
My fault - playing!! Well - she's a puppy!!

I would recommend you don't sit on that little ragamuffin or you'll both need surgery!! ;)

Your efforts on this beast are starting to pay dividends....looks more the part all the time.:thumb2:

Lots of fiddly diddly bits there Doug!

It's looking great but makes me glad I went for the baby version lol

It is :) The commander’s hatch is easy to recognise on most tanks because it will be the one with the most vision devices (even on 1930s–40s tanks, where it may be the only turret hatch with even a single vision device at all).

Even if I say so myself - it's starting to look like a tank!!
All it needs is the main gun barrel and it will definitely look like one.

As for pe I use what I can , any soldering required I just pass on .
I normally use glue, but I’m willing to solder things when I think it’s necessary for strength. If that isn’t required, though, superglue all the way :)

Grabbed an hour today after taking pup to the vets for a post op check. (All good).

Managed to put some more gear on the turret. I was quite pleased with progress until I looked at the image I took. The bins on the starboard are slightly out of kilter but not a biggie to correct. (Annoying just the same).

Not much more to do really, gun barrel and it's painting time. Won't be rushing that, I have a lot of work to do reading up on weathering and 'stuff'. I have a vision in head what I want - achieving it will be a challenge. Lots of firsts on this kit, first armour - ever. First 1/35 scale. First encounter with PE. Never even seen rubber used on kits.

It's a slippery slope :smiling5:

There are so many ways to skin a cat and everyone seems to have their own favourite techniques, products and processes. It's easy to say "just do it the way that makes you happy" but that doesn't always work. Whilst I absolutely agree with that statement and it's a sure fire way to get the most enjoyment out of the hobby, those of us that are quite new will take a bit of trial & error to find that groove.

By all means try a few things out but don't overstretch yourself and lose the enjoyment. As one famous strap line goes: When the fun stops, stop! :smiling3:

My bold, that's the bit that is phasing me. Everyone has a specific technique and YT certainly makes that obvious. I'm shortly going to prime the beast then after that I'll hopefully have a plan as to how to proceed with colours.
I even started researching making my own pigments last night after a YT session!!! (It's not even primed yet!!!)
Several parts are waiting for the paint to be applied before they get fitted or I can see me digging a big hole for myself!! For example, the rear end, 5 gallon water and fuel containers, they differ in colour(s) to the tank and are encased in frames etc.
Part of the fun, I'll work it out.
General question? Does PE have to be treated differently when airbrushing? Does it need cleaning off with a specific chemical or will general clean up do?
