Hello all, I have not posted prior to this but, I have been reading a number of posts and found them to be a source of inspiration on those days when I just can't seem to get motivated to sit down at the workbench and continue on with my Pocher build. So, today I'm jumping into the fray and posting some of my build pictures. I've been on this car for about 6 months and as I started it 16 years ago I wasn't real happy with some of the work I done prior so I took it all apart and started over. Here are some pics starting with the engine and some components. I had another Mercedes that was also started by someone else so I used that as a comparison between a painted engine and an unpainted version. Anyway, this first lot is the engine mostly done. The next lot will be on the chassis and running gear.

Wayne that is a really engine full size real ! ;)

Could you tell us or me at least what sort of model, name of the manufacture scale and what the whole thing looks like when finished. ?

Apologies welcome to the forum.

Awesome work so far Wayne, and welcome to the forum if I haven't already said hi.

Laurie, Pocher is a brand, apparently owned by Hornby.

Their range is in 1/8 scale.

Thanks all, yes it is the Pocher Mercedes "True Roadster" K91 and yes it is a rather large 1/8 scale. This one was one of last kits produced in the Classic Series that Pocher made toward the end of their run. The K91, K93, K94, and K95 Mercedes kits were produced with plastic wire wheels instead of the 120 piece assemble yourself metal wire wheels. Hornby has since purchased the Pocher name and are producing the bid diecast pre-painted bodied Lamborghini Adventadors. Here are a few pictures of some of the chassis components. Some of the pictures with the engine in the chassis were taken when I was testing the fit and making sure of clearances and also to try and figure out how I'm going to attach the copper lines off of the cowl to the brake m/cyl that mounts on the frame. There is limited clearance in that area and I don't want the lines to look too wonky when done so there will be a bit engine in and out while I get those done. Enjoy the pictures

I love these Pocher kits.

I've currently built the Rolls Torpedo, Alfa Spider, the new Aventador and am currently restoring a wreck Fiat.

I've got the Mercedes (with the full wire wheels) and the Bugatti in my stash.

Your engine looks superb.

I'll be watching this with great interest.

Roy.

Thanks Roy, David and Peter. I also have a few more Pocher's in my stash. I have an Alfa Spider with chassis done but not painted, (2) Alfa Monzas, an Alfa Muletto, the K74 Mercedes Cabriolet, a Mercedes K

Sorry about that it sent before I was done. Anyway a K80 and the Lamborghini. I also have a lot of bits and pieces from some Alfa kits and some 1/8 scale Big T and 32 Ford roadster parts and 1/8 V-8 engines that I plan on cobbling together a rat rod out of in 1/8 Scale. My total stash at last count is over 576 kits of all scales but mostly cars and about 50 planes. So many kits and so little time. I know I'll never build them all so occasionally I sell a few here and there but, I always seem to acquire another one or two. I am running out of room in the man cave/workshop!!

Made some more progress today but, there are still bits and pieces missing and a couple that need a little tweaking. This model was fairly far along when I first posted so most of where I'm at now is assembling most of the completed sub-assemblies into the chassis. Once I'm done with the chassis and all the running gear it will be time to start on the body paint and interior. I plan on painting the car all black, that's why the black wire wheels, and I already have a nice piece of red leather from my Marvin at Model Motor Cars. Anyway, here are a few pictures.View attachment 99958

This is looking fantastic. I would love to do one but the cost is a big stopper for me. One day maybe

Beautiful model and superbly put together. I have seen a lot of criticism of the cost of these kits but when you see the standard of engineering you are dealing with you can see where the cost goes. This looks more like building a real car than a model kit. Lovely job.

Thank you all for your kind words. I agree about the cost and Ive had this kit for a long time. I bought it around 1997, I think, and started it to the point I had the engine painted and somewhat assembled. I also had the frame painted and assembled with the front suspension installed and that's where I stopped. I started going to night school as well as working full time so there was just no time to work on this monster. I think when you decide to purchase one of these kits your mindset is I've done the Tamiya 1/12 F-1 cars and now I'm ready to test myself on what is arguably the toughest and by parts count most detailed kit made. It becomes a test of your skills as a modeller to take all you have learned and see if you have what it takes to build one. And not only build it but do it well. Since I re-started this kit I have made a lot of new friends along the way and most of them are some of the best Pocher builders in the world. Pocher builders are a small fraternity and every one I've met or talked to has been nothing but friendly and helpful. There is a certain respect because we all know a Pocher kit is nothing like putting together a perfectly manufactured Tamiya kit. When you read the history of Pocher you wonder that all the parts ever made it into the box. Anyway, that's my reason for justifying the expense. You just have to do it at least once just to know that you can.

Just a quick post today. Moving right along. The horn got in the way of the air cleaner, I've got to figure out how to get it back on with the air cleaner in the way. I need a break from all the little fiddly bits so, on the last picture, I decided to start working a little on the body fit with the hood panel and doors. I see that the rear section of the hood is going to need to be thinned down quite a bit and the cowl section should also have some material removed so it's not all off the hood. That lower ribbed hood panel is a bit warped as you can see in the picture; hello hot water. I hope I can bend it back in shape without too much trouble. I also need to finish the radiator and grille shell and mount it so I can better align to front hood fit to the radiator shell. We all know that the Pocher's have a notorious bad fit where the hood is concerned, so a little extra time here will be needed.
