discussion B29 Old Battler

Hi People, as you may know or dont as the case maybe, im building a B29, Iv got to the stage where I have installed the undercarriage went in no problem after a night of letting it set, I placed it on its wheels for the first time today, trouble is its tail heavy and the front wheel is of the ground and the tail area is resting on the skid. Anyone else built a Academy B29 is this the norm, or is it a case of trying to add a bit of weight to the front to bring the nose down. ????View attachment 104392

Not built any B-29, but a quick look online shows the 1/72 kit needs about 100 grams of weight in the nose area, the 1/48 kit even more.

Here's a daft idea Colin ............. I don't know how much room you have between the cockpit deck and the top of the wheel well ...........But if you have and space a hole drilled in the well and squirt some two pack araldite in there ......... It's quite dense so you wont need much to get 100 grams ......... I have some syringes (we use them at work for oiling components. If you want a few to experiment with (I'm not sure how you'd get the Araldite in the syringe . but if you want some I can post some off to you.

A small suggestion.


Try it on a bit of sprue first, to be sure there is no adverse reaction with the plastic!


Be a shame to pump some in, to find it desolves all your efforts.

100g is quite heavy (3.5 ounces to us older chaps!).I would drill your hole,put lead shot in,followed by glue to hold it in place.Alternatively you could make a tail prop from a piece of clear sprue.

Consider mounting it on a runway Dio, and glue the nose wheel down.


I would be very weary of pouring lots of glue into the nose, when it dries, it shrinks and will distort the local area.
