I'm building a model beam engine of my own design, in other words, it might not work. When I say work, being 3D printed it won't run under steam or air, but it might turn by hand or electric motor. I've drawn it in a CAD programme called SolidEdge, and will print it on my Ender3. I've made it up as I went along with the occasional glance at model and real engines featured online. But I need a bit more info. It's the eccentric rod that operates the valve gear. I'm not sure where the valve should in relation to the piston stroke. As drawn the piston is in the middle of it's travel. Where should the valve rod be? I'm also going to ask on a model engineering site, but I would appreciate all comments. Maybe you have an Airfix model beam engine you could look at.

The eccentric rod hasn't been drawn yet. I think I'll clad the cylinder in strips of thin wood, stained and varnished.
Many thanks, Lee
P.S. There are at least two real full size ones near my local Morrisons here in Cornwall!

I know you are in a far flung corner of the country but I didn't realise you were still running on steam....... You will be getting electric lights and carpets next :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
