Hi Guys,

I'm in a panic! I use this stuff by the lorry load. Does anyone know any alternative stuff?

I guess you are talking about that bath you put brass in to make it turn black/brown.

If so I would suggest a model rail shop. I am sure that they will help.

On a more adventurous foot, you could try brewing some. I cant remember the ingredients but I have read/seen that its easy and the chemicals are available..

I think I was it on You Tube...

Carr's blackening fluid does the job. There's different solutions for different metals apparently.

Alexander hope you do not mind me mentioning it. But you look remarkably like Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery. :D :mad:Laurie
Why thank you sir :)

I was planning on changing it to Field Marshal Alexander

Anyone just the AK or other brand blackening solution?

As Ian suggests all the railway modeller suppliers have various blackening fluids. Try the American modeller supply companies as well, a lot do international mail order.

Like I said in a previous post, Carr's make blackening solutions for different types of metal. As well as the previously mentioned website C&L Finescale sell this stuff.
