Bowcat's 1/35 Tamiya Stug III Ausf G "Finnish Army"

Cheers Steve. :smiling3:

I just want to get better at faces, I have certainly improved since by early attempts but know I can do better with some practice.

So for the last few days I have been getting the camo down. If this was German tri camo I would have just freehanded it with the Airbrush, but the Finnish army had hard edge camo which meant masking, never easy on an AFV with all the lumps and bumps.

To try and accurately mimic the box art I scanned the painting instructions then after a quick calculation printed them out at 147.7% so they were 1:1 with the model. After spraying the lightest colour I cut out the shapes from my print, transferred them to masking tape and applied them. Not a quick process.

The 2nd colour was applied then it was just rinse and repeat with the masking and 3rd colour.

After unmasking she looks like this.

I'm quite happy with the result. There was a little bit of paint lift from the PE grilles which I have touched up with a brush but otherwise the lines are quite clear and distinct.

Unfortunately that is now how it is going to stay for a few days. I'm a dining room table modeller, and the missus apparently wants the table clear for Christmas. Bloody cheek! :smiling3:

Cheers,

B

Bob

I took used to be a dining room modeller too but since we moved into our new house three years ago I've migrated to an old fold out table in the kitchen. Three or four times a month my wife reminds me that her plan has been for a two seater sofa to sit in the the space at my table now occupies but so far the table hasn't been moved...

Unfortunately though, as I work from home once a week I have to clear my modelling stuff so I can set up my laptop but at least it's not the dining room table anymore.

On a serious note that camo looks very good indeed and I love the figures.

Very Well done and keep up the good work.

Evening all. :)

I've managed to get a bit done on this over the last few days.

I started by attaching the stowage box, extinguisher, jack block and drivers armour shield, then gave everything a gloss coat and added the decals.

Then I turned my attention to the tracks and spare tracks and let loose with some pigments.

And finally I finished off the logs. I may still give these a dry brush with some lighter brown and maybe some green.

So I'm now ready to get on with the weathering which I will most likely start with a pin wash. :)

Hi Bob just had a catch up, cracking job I like the camo pattern very nicely done indeed.
Pete.

Hi Bob, Superb build! I also love the paint job. Bang tidy! :thumb2:

Bob great work around. Thanks for the tip with the wire , it certainly looks effective as does that masking tape work.
Great work , oh my little dog never looked as good as yours !

Cheers John. :)

The wire trick is new to me as well but seems to be working out. I glued the tracks together last night and everything stayed in place, hopefully that will be the case when I fit them.

Cheers gents. :)

I got most of the weathering done this weekend. This build is based on the Continuation War of July/August 1944, so I've kept it more dirty and dusty with dry mud. I might still give it a pigment scrub at the end, but I'll get the base done first so I can tie it all together.

Some sneak peaks of the mostly completed Stug.

The sag seams to have worked quite well and mimics photos I have seen.
