It does look nice, but with a 14.5cm fuselage, I think Peter is right.

It is 1/48 - nice little kits these, simple, good fit, good detail, well engineered.

Bob's obviously so used to building 1/35 armour that it's become a habit to type that in! :)

Confusion over the scale aside, that's a great start Bob, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this one.

Cheers gents. The build is now on hold as I found I didn't have the right paints (doh)!

Ordered what I need from John last night (along with another kit that I don't actually need :)) so should be back in business in a couple of days.

Undercarriage painted, not sure if I've gone too thick and lost most of the pre-shading?

I can still see it Bob. Often it's a very subtle effect that doesn't always come out on photos

I haven't updated this build for a while, mainly because it's been going crap. :(

I've had loads of issues with the decals, particularly the wing insignia (roundels, is that right word?). They haven't gone down well around the raised bits, have torn and one of them split in half when I was sliding it off the backing.

I carried on regardless, they don't look good but hey ho, this was my first attempt at an aircraft. I also did some pinwashing.

Great looking Spitfire Bob
Just caught up and eve with the decals it looks like you've taken it in your stride and tuned her around.
Kind regards

Robert

The Spitfire is looking good Bob, It's just a pity about the decals, they must be showing there age.

Decals on Spittys are always an issue, what with the long black strips, then the 'nobbly bits' inconveniently where the underside decal goes!!! I always end up painting over them because of cracking and colour matching is not easy. Next time I will use paint masks not decals.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think it may have been that the decals were very old (it was an eBay bargain).

In retrospect I should have painted the roundels on rather than use the decals. Still, I've learned something new which is what I am always trying to achieve with my modeling. :)
