Wow we have been thrown the lot in Jersey.

Gale force winds, snow, sleet, freezing rain now rain. Although there is a sign of thawing as little pools of water are appearing on the roads.

Airport closed schools closed yes we know how to panic here.

Tried some model stuff this morning. Garage at 12 degrees & even the heating is not making much progress. Fingers are not supple with the cold. Given up.

Howzit out there.

It's been snowing all morning in Birmingham. My car is still buried on the drive, which is a shame because I'm supposed to be elsewhere!

I nipped out into the extension with a view to finishing the boosters on my natter but discretion got the better part of valour. I'm now supposedly working from home.

It's bright, clear, sunny , dry if a little chilly beautiful

Winters day here. Been expecting snow but looks like you guys are getting it all, makes a nice change, enjoy!

It's -2 in Zagreb right now and my return flight to Heathrow is already delayed, it's not looking good for me. Funnily enough, I was explaining the English phrase "brass monkeys" to a Slovenian friend yesterday, Pearl Harbour too!

I don't expect I'll get any replies. I rarely do when I try humour or philosophy. However, always the optimist.....

Where does the term brass monkeys come from?

An old naval term,,cannon balls made of iron were kept in place by a brass contraption called a monkey,,when the temperature dropped the brass would contract and the cannon balls would roll off,,hence "Cold enough to freeze the balls off of a brass monkey"

I'm not that clever I Googled it :)

Thanks John

I'm content now.

John your correct a Monkey was a lot like a snooker triangle, inside which a pyramid of canon balls would be built. M

I actually knew that.

Over here its quite mild today only minus 9 C Wendsday morning was a chilly one. Minus 19 C. We have a 10 to 20cm snow which has been there since Sunday night.

So just how bad is it over in the UK. I read that airports are closed and some motorway as well! Its snow! How bad can it be...... ;-)
