This new one opens the way for a few cross kit builds to. Should be able to do a few other versions by using two kits. Mk XI Any body.

One thought! The XVI would be wicked in the silver sceme with the red stripe as per the Airfix club version......Hmm:tongueout2:

Aaaah,but were they in natural metal or painted with an "aluminium" lacquer like high speed silver. One for someone more knowledgeable about Spitfires than me!

See now you gone and opend that worm can again!!! I see a lot of googleong on the horizon!

My thoughs are why paint a plane build of allu, allu colour. Why not just strip and polish it. Further though could of be the result that paint is much easier to keep clean and bright that alluminium.....

Ian a quick check confirms that these late models were finished in "high speed silver". It appears that this was infact exactly the same as the "aluminium" applied way back in the 1930s. In the case of Spitfires this was presumably applied over the ubiquitous grey primer.It was essentially an aluminium pigmented cellulose dope. The advent of polyurethane aircraft paints prompted the change to Light Aircraft Grey.
