Brian's actual 1/200 Yamato build

Like the plane idea too.
Yeah Mick there is only room for 2 on the deck really so it makes sense, but I don't know where to put all the boats there all internal during battle but seeing as I'm configured for port with the main guns I guess I can put some on the upper deck.

Progress so far but tbh it almost went out the window lol I don't think my skill level is up to the Yamato. The 18" guns are proving very difficult.

Brian, your skill level is certainly up to it. As for your other remark - you must have big windows! :smiling3:

You're doing a really fine job Brian. It's easy to forget just how big a project this is. Nice touch to fold the wings on the plane.
Going back a bit to the best colour for the planes. I agree with Ian that a slightly lighter colour looks better on models. There is a widely held, but fiercely debated, theory that colours on models should be lighter than those on the real thing to reflect the smaller size :rolling:

Brian,
You are most certainly up to the task mate.
Thanks for the vote of confidence :)

The main guns are looking great Bob. In fact you could leave them as they are. I have seen photographs of Yamoto where the main guns are getting the blast bags changed. .
The arched part at the top of the opening is always there and is a support for the bag so normally hidden. The platforms below the outer most barrels are also there permanently. The only bit put up and taken down is the platforms hung off the barrels. They are the service platforms that get deployed as needed.

Hi Ian it's this causing me a problem I think it's got something to do with the alloy barrels and P.E. not liking each other and the ca not gripping too good. I might leave them off .....but I don't like admitting defeat :)

Have you tried cleaning off with cellulose thinners and or de-bonder. CA don't like sticking to CA .

If the parts are to small to clean, fire works. Might melt the brass though if a lot of CA needs to burn off.

Yeah tried cleaning and sanding a key, they do stick but they don't like it.

Looking good mate, pva works quite well on a primed surface and excess can be cleaned off with a damp cotton bud.
