Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Looking good Brian, I'm a bit jalous of your lovely workspace (y)

Yes, much bench envy, and windows too.

What's that grey coating?

Where? Above the quarter windows? Looks like lead to me. No idea if it's original.

Thx Pete I'll dig some more

About 10 - 12 years ago I bought a book about the history of HMS Victory that went into great detail about the various changes that have been made to her, and the various colours she's been painted. I thought I knew where the book was, but it isn't there! I wouldn't have lent it out, so it must be in the house somewhere but it isn't in any of the logical places.

I found my book; "Nelson's Victory". Mostly history of the ship and her crew - an interesting read but no details of the materials. There are several contemporary paintings of Victory that show a similar grey area above the stern gallery windows.
I think it must be lead or painted canvas, but if painted wouldn't they use one of the hull colours?
Looking forward to the results of your digging Brian.

Pete I found much the same as you I think it's lead flashing (later copper) and this is how I decided to go forward :)
Finished port and stbd sides
