red would look a bit garish so i think natural wood

When was the red interior brought in for wooden battleships? That should give you your benchmark.

The inner bulwarks of Sovereign of the Seas were historically painted a deep red (red ochre). On this famous 17th-century warship, this bright interior crimson served two main purposes: it made the highly ornate, gilded carvings stand out and was famously used in naval tradition to hide the sight of blood during battle. Because the ship was designed by King Charles I as a monumental propaganda tool, every detail was carefully chosen to project absolute royal power. [1, 2]

This is coloured natural walnut and as the cannon carriages are red I think this looks ok



the backside of the deck bulkheads will be red ochre.

This is the red ( Admiralty red ochre)I decided to use rather than the scarlet red I see used on lots of builds Honest opinions please

I would think the red would be based on red lead, so scarlet would be closer? However, from an aesthetic point of view the India red looks very good.
