right im thinking of possibly building a small section of runway, well more the little concrete bits where the aircraft would wait before the pilot came to fly it, a bit like a parking bay.

any who, i cant think what material would represent the comcrete slabs used to make these runway sections.

like this, cept i kinda wanna make it myself :P

I don't know what scale you are thinking off which would possibly make a difference in the materials used. If you want to do it all yourself, you could cut some 'slabs' from thin card such as a cereal box. Paint them and drybrush for effect then stick them to a thicker board. A dirt wash should take care of the join lines after painting on any lines, numbers etc.

P.S. I am sure you will get a much more technical answer from the great diorama builders on here though ;-)

hi iain, grahams answer pretty much covers it , i used a similar approach except i just painted a mdf basewith grey primer then scored the joint lines and dry brushed as graham says.it was only a small base(about 4" square) but it looked pretty effective (plus I HAD to stick it on a base cause i forgot to put any nose weight in , DOH!) good luck ,post us some pics when its done ,cheers tony

If it's a WW2 plane, you could make a wooden hardstanding using cut-up lolly sticks! Patrick

its a 1/72 dornier 335 pfeil. at oberpfaffenhoben. so i think the base is concrete.

i like the idea of using mdf

but i think ill try with the cereal box, because i have the board.

thanks guys, and yes, ill post a piccy once ive done it:D

I've seen pics of model Do-335 on plank hardstands-being a late war plane, concrete runways weren't always available. Patrick
