discussion canopy panes

hi there .completed my canopy for my ju88 and then on fixing to the fuselage promptly smudged it with a glue/paint finger print .... getting better as it is only one pane this time!!. Anyone got a foolproof way of removing these types of smudges ..... tx a lot

Well now,we've all been here. It very much depends on what exactly has got onto the clear part. What sort of paint or what sort of glue. Some are easy to deal with some are not really retrievable.

hi there steve .................a mixture of humbrol poly cement and a life colour acrylic (sand yellow) . tx

The acrylic paint will lift off with a cotton bud wet with a suitable solvent. I use methylated spirit or iso propyl alcohol. You can also scrape with a wooden cocktail stick which shouldn't scratch the plastic. The poly cement will have etched and clouded the clear part. The best you can do is to mitigate the damage. Leave it until it is thoroughly dried and then polish out the area affected. I'd start with about 800 grit paper,go to 1500,and then as fine as you've got. I doubt that you will remove all the clouding but hopefully you will be able to make it look respectable. A coat of clear varnish will also help to hide the damage.

That's a goner unfortunately, poly cement melts styrene so you'd be able to clean off the paint but you'll not get a clear window. The most forgiving is white pva glue, superglue is good but again you have to be very careful

tx for the advice ...as suggested i have cleaned away the paint and will try the sanding and hope for the best .....

Thats a bummer when that happens. As others have said you might be able to polish it out. If it is hard to get at with 'sand paper' once you have got the worst off, try with ordinary white toothpaste on a cotton bud.
