Scale Model Shop

Can't post pics.

Thread owner
OK, just tried again to post as I have done for six years without a problem except once a few years ago after another server shift
but John quickly remedied the problem and I hope he can put things back to "normal" this time.
I'm holding out faith. If it is a matter of funding which I can fully understand, let it be known I would gladly pay double the dues.

I'm too old and impatient to be fiddling with all this other site re-sizing or some such hassles.
Am only just getting back to the bench after a long hiatus owing to covid and other health problems.
With my fragile condition I can no longer participate in our rugged business and to ward off boredom and or depression
the wife urged me to get back on track with my modelling.

I have done just that as of late and just started a new dio thread, but this is a blow to me.
I would hate to chuck it all because without a forum of like minded colleagues to share with....what's the point?

Hoping a remedy is in the works

Jim.

Cheer up Pard..............John is all over it and things should get back to normal. In the mean time just keep having fun & posting up your progress verbally once in awhile till he gets it fixed. :thumb2: Rick H.

Rick and Tim are right. There does seem to be a gremlin in the works but John will sort it. I would hate to see any friends and fellow modellers stop posting or leave due to a temporary problem. So hang on in there.

This afternoon I posted an update on my HMS Victory build. Ten photos without any problems. Strange how it's ok for some but not for others. The photos were taken on my camera, put onto the computer and then onto my thread.

That's what I do Jim, so not sure why I have started having problems. I will try again this evening.

I recently bought a new phone. Nothing fancy - cost just over £100. The camera on it is far better than my 12 year old bridge camera. I wonder whether the size/resolution or whatever on modern phone cameras is too good/high for the site to manage. Someone did mention that they thought it may be a phone issue.
Don't despair. I actually blame it on Brexit :rolling: :hugging-face::rolling:

Guys,if you are uploading from your PC you just need to resize the pics. You can use the software Gary linked on page 1, or any PC running Windows will come with a program called Paint which will also do the same job.

Just open Paint, open the picture, click resize. You can then reduce the percentage by whatever necessary to get under the 2mb limit (eg if the pic is 4.5MB, resize to 50%) then save to your desktop (or wherever on your PC) and upload to the forum as usual.

I appreciate the old adage "You cant teach an old dog new tricks" but it's hardly rocket science.

I'm closing this thread as we seem to be going round in circles, if you are having problems uploading then your file is bigger than 2mb, I'm not going to increase that as it's more than big enough for posting pictures on a forum, as the forum has been moved to the same server as my shop's site I don't want to do anything that could risk downtime, the shop is moving to the new server and platform on 7th December, providing there are no delays, this is the 3rd date I've had.

Once its moved I will make as many changes as needed, I have see a plugin for the forum that will let me increase the upload size and it will then resize and strip the images of all unnecessary data, it will also go through all the current pictures and optimise them, currently pictures take up 42GB of space, which is a lot, that is why other forums use picture hosting sites, but we don't, in fact if you post a linked picture it will automatically download it
