i want to try to fill the gaps but as you are pointing out the cork would be filled to, need to figure out that one,
How about this: get some black or grey cotton thread, coat it with glue (run it through your gluey fingers) and holding it fairly tight insert it between the stones. Easy for the horizontals but rather time-consuming the the verticals, although perhaps you could do one set of verticals with one thread, zig-zagging round as you go down.

I think if you paint all the stones and wipe it off their surfaces you will loose the present nice stone colour, and possibly the surface texture which would fill with paint.

Hey Richi

This is a bit different. Looks fun and seems to coming together at a pace. Nice technique and looks as though this will be a really attractive diorama.

Steve's idea sounds good. Especially if you could coat the thread with pigment to hide the fact that it is thread and make it look more like mortar.

Hi Steve,

i don't want to keep this yellowish colour, I want to go with grey tones because i think the yellow tones would represent more like mediterranean colours and i want it more like Ardennes, Belgium and France.

There is almost no space between the stones, the edges are sanded for about 3/4 of the cork thickness, after that they are scharp.

I will keep the trick with the thread in mind that a keeper.

That sound like a good idea Dave need to try that on a test piece.

Hi Richard,

I have some syringes with fine needles. We used them at work for a job we were doing.......... If you want to try that route let me know and I'll chuck some in an envelope and post them off to you.

Well that is a very good question,

i got some

Vallejo Water Effects Still Water Clear and E-Z Water not really sure what to use.

I want to create depth with paint because i don't want to put 2 liters of water effect stuff in it, so lets see what is working best for this.

Cheers Richi

You said you were going to paint this in a mixture of greys. Had you thought of leaving it the natural cork colour? I know you're thinking of what's normally used in a given area, but I reckon the colours you have now look really good.

Thread owner
Hi Dave,

yes thought of that but it looks to corkie if you know what i mean, it doesn't feel right when i look at it, difficult to explain .

Cheers Richi

P'raps it looks different in the pictures to how it looks on your workbench, but I know what you mean. It's your build so it has to look right in your eyes.

This really is superb work Richi, it's turning out lovely mate, looking forward to the next update;)
