32mm figure from tabletop miniatures game A Song of Ice and Fire, by CMON.com.

I've put this in as finished, but in truth I'm dithering. The artwork suggests he should have some red and blue warpaint, but I'm reluctant to muck up adding that, and having to redo the face again. But that's why the face is so pale - if I decide not to add the warpaint I'll tone the Vallejo Pale Flesh down a bit.

Here's the figure straight out of the box. I've cut it off the base and given it some extra height, to accentuate the superhero three-point landing.

And here's that blasted face paint.

Hi Paul
That's a beautifully detailed sculpt. Excellent painting.

Thanks Jim. Yes, it's a great sculpt, and that makes it a lot easier to paint, imo!

Excellent work Paul. As always I’m in awe of your bases! As to the face paint, never tried it myself, but I’d be tempted to try watercolour or gouache paint. They can be washed off if it goes horribly wrong. If they work you can fix them with a light spray of varnish….

Ah, now that's a good idea, Tim. I'll think further on it. I was considering using a diluted ink wash, but that would have to be put on in one, super-confident application. Something reversible might be a lot more forgiving!

Tim, here's the base under construction. I've become increasingly aware that grit needs to be actually placed, not just sprinkled on at random. I've tried to create transitions from small to large - look at shingle on a beach, and how there are transitions from coarse to fine. With this base I just used a range of ink washes, and then a final dry brush of highlights. Very tempting to overly titivate it, but in this instance I kept it simple.

Thanks for the info on the base Paul. Let us know how the face paint work goes, good or bad. I might need to use it myself one day ;)
