thanks mate. the engine took a bit of thinking and planning. luckily I save all the spare bits off the sprues that I don't use.

the pipes are the insulation off of electrical cable and bits of solder wire. the main bulk is balsa bits.

So then ... i thought i'd break it :)

Well ... i've snapped the front wheels so i can position them as if they were turned in full lock to look better in the dio.

One done.

View attachment 57880

Thought i'd include a simple step by step on a basic diorama ...so ....

Start off with a picture frame. take out the glass and remove hooks and stand from the backing board. i've put a bit of polystyrene tile on top and glued the back board tight against the poly for strength.

I use a mini blow-torch to texture the surface of the poly and make tyre track divets etc.

View attachment 57870

I paint the surface with acrylics in the colour of whats going to be added... this give me an idea on the eventual look and the paint will show throught some of the scenic stuff and add a bit of body to the dio.

View attachment 57872

Next i'll add the gravel, stones, mud as this will be under any grass or scrub that is included. this is scattered over PVA glue

View attachment 57873

Then i add the grass, this time i'm using static grass through a sieve thats been charged with a hair comb, again scattered over PVA. (added a few close ups)

View attachment 57874View attachment 57875View attachment 57876View attachment 57877

Made a tree out of twisted wire, which is covered in PVA and then bi-carb is sprinkled on. this is repeated untill it looks like bark and the twists from the wire have dissapeared. the bicard is then coloured with thinned paint, the bicarb soaks it up readily and you use slightly different shades to achieve a graduated/varied look for the bark. the foliage is scattter just sprinkled on the branched over a coat of PVA, again this is repeated untill it looks how you want it.

View attachment 57871

Added the tree to the dio by squishing it into some silicon sealant, th surface of the sealant has some grass scattered over it to blend it in to the grass already on the dio .. the roots are scraped clear of grass to give a little realism.

View attachment 57878View attachment 57879

Next i'll be adding some bushes and ground scrub with some dried pampass grass scattered here and there .... but thats tomorrows task.

Hope you find some of this helpful ... or at least interesting :) :) :)

Thanks chaps.

todays offering is the bushes, I think it was Aaron that enquired about them in my last build ...

Start off with some wire, i use telephone cable wire as it's quite stiff and maleable, strip off the insulation .. you can keep this for pipework on model engines etc.

View attachment 57929

Fols in half and secure the bent end to the table, then secure one loose end to the table stretching the wire straight

View attachment 57930

Cut some short lengths of garden twine, i find the brown gives the impression of small branches and twigs under the foliage.

Then tease out the individual strands of twine

View attachment 57931View attachment 57932

Smear some glueof your choice on the wire and lay the twine on the wire in clumps along the length.

View attachment 57933View attachment 57934View attachment 57935

When done lay the other end of the wire over the top of the twine and attach the two loose ends to a dremmel or similar.

View attachment 57936View attachment 57937

Twist the wire using the dremmel keep the twine off the table as it'll end up flat against the wire. when done cut into required lengths and tease the twine out with a comb.

View attachment 57938View attachment 57939

Use spray adhesive to cover the twine then sprinkle whatever foliage effect you want on the twine and thats it. I did these six in about an hour (including stopping to take photos)

View attachment 57940View attachment 57941View attachment 57942

Thats how i do bushes, there other methods but i find this the easiest (if more messy:))

Not sure if we're posting finished builds in a seperate "completed" thread as per usual, appologies if i've messed up.

Well i hope Polux, our SIG guest host, approves of my attempt at his "theme" :) :) :)

Calling it "abandoned !!"

For information, the bull-rush type plants are made from a single bristle from a wallpaper brush, with a small amount of plasticene for the tip (painted brown) this is set in some garden twine to simulate the wispy grass.

Thanks for those comments guys, much appreciated.

I was going to have a few figures in the scene but decided against it as they might have taken the emphasis off the main subject.

Could always add them later i suppose.
