discussion Cold war MIG kits: which is best?

Just starting to come out of hibernation and thinking about modelling again - for some reason am hankering after a mysterious MiG to build - perhaps a MiG 25 Foxbat - been looking at reviews of the ICM kit and some suggest it's not the best for a "beginner" (which I most definitely am) but would really like to give it a go.

Anyone got any opinions on whether any particular kit of this type would be the best to start off with? Or are they much of a muchness? Cheers!

Hi munkster, if youre after a mig 25 thats not too complicated and easy to build, the old hasegawa 1/72 is still fairly easy to find on e-bay, the same goes for their mig 23's and 27's. Alternatively you could try the academy mig 27 or 23, these should be like the rest of the academy range ,ie. great fit and easy to build but very good detail. Heres a pic of my hasegawa mig 27 just to whet your appetite!

Interesting - got the impression the Hasegawa ones weren't that great a fit, but yours looks pretty sweet! I think I have a thing about the Foxbat after poring over out of focus pics of it as a kid

If youre a bit wary of the hasegawa kit ,how about this one? cheap as chips too!! i dont know what its like but ive built a couple of hobbycraft kits and although not the most detailed they both went together great , hope this helps, cheers tony Hobbycraft 1/72 Mikoyan MiG-25 Foxbat # 1312

Gone for an Academy MiG 23 kit after much deliberation, thanks for thoughts though - I've just "invested" in one of the eBay compressor/airbrush kits (looks *great* out of the box to a complete layman) so am looking forward to the inevitable frustrations that lie ahead!!

As I say though, not used yet... Fired it up but no paint through it - can't wait to have a go!!
