I've had a chance to look at the big 1/16th Tiger that Ron and Tony 'persuaded' me to buy (Tony held me down and Ron beat me with a big stick while young Ian stood in the background urging them on!).

It's apparently the old WSN/Torro R/C moulding without all the R/C motors and toys! Clearly not highly detailed but it looks a simple build (even with individual track links) and the parts are reasonably flash free.

It's about 530mm long by 220mm wide, which is roughly the same size as the biggest 'kit' that Ron obtained today (Pictures please Ron - you know you want to!) so it's quite imposing. And I'm certainly not going to argue with a £60 price tag for a brand new kit!

With the range of aftermarket parts available for Heng Long etc. and perhaps some bits of scratchbuilding I see no reason why you couldn't end up with a nice, big, cheap Tiger.

With the all-singing, all-dancing Tamiya Tiger running to about £700, you could afford a lot of aftermarket bits to improve it considerably and still show a good saving, but super-detailers may well prefer to spend the extra money on one of the uber-kits.

Come on Ron! We know you're back home now so where are your pictures of today's acquisitions?

The group photo looks like a movie promo poster for "The Expendables UK" :) :) :) :)

Just to thank you lot for making Cosford 2013 another great day out and the weather played ball yet again. It really is good to meet up each year....perhaps we should try and meet up more often?.....Models or not.....

Thanks also for the nice comments about the awards Ian and I picked up. I think we were both shell shocked in equal measure!

Thanks to Tony for the raffle and Tunnocks, Dave for the Eccles cakes and Ian for the coffees. I noticed a distinct lack of coffee stirrers in the cafe...they must have got wind of S.M's invasion.

Well done 'Big Box' Dave for not letting us down. His haul was something to be seen and he blames me for the purchase of a very large Tiger tank! He had his eye on a 1/200 Bismark, but the seller wouldn't budge from the £200+ price tag, and in any case Dave wouldn't have got the box in his car......

Ian couldn't resist a particular kit and gave in just before the show ended and we rushed over to the stall to see if it was still there....which it was, and the bloke knocked a 1/4 off the price without Ian having to ask for a reduction.....Nice one mate.

But surely the bargain of the day was mine!!!!!! I entered a raffle to support the Air Ambulance....some nice kits to be won and I got lucky and had a winning ticket - 490....What did I win? A small tea tray! ****!

Justine sends her regards to 'her boys' and enjoyed meeting you all. I'll post the few pictures I took shortly.

One excellent day out with a great bunch of blokes, thank you.

Ron and Justine

Oh bugger you mean I missed meeting you guys AGAIN this year!!!

I was up in Hanger 2 with the IPMS Farnborough stand, under the Jaguar. I did get a 3rd prize trophy for the Bar-armoured Scimitar which I was very surprised about. I think straightening the barrel finally did the trick :)

Sorry I missed out, I like Eccles cakes! Congrats Ron on the Diorama win - I thought it looked familiar but at shows like this you see so many models that look similar to something else that you don't always put 2 and 2 together!

Pleased to say that this was my main success of the day:

Nice result on the Scimitar Andrew, i would expect there's quite a few armour entries in the comp so third's something to be proud of :)

And it seems the phantom thread-mergers been at it again, hmmmm :)

Well done Andrew, good result and thanks for the congratulations...I'm still shaking!

Colin, I too notice the 'phantom' has been at it again.....It's happened to a couple of my posts recently. It's spoilt the Cosford flow and the replies are a bit jumbled now. Very strange.....

It has ended up a little jumbled unfortunately.

Merging threads can be a nightmare (in admins defense), it works better for image related threads but will take a lot of shifting posts around to get a decent flow if theres a lot of digression or "sub-conversations"

After any shows we had at the tarantula society, there'd be a few threads with the same name but i just changed the title for the most part and let people post in which ever they wanted to.

No worries John, good thought.............Creep, creep!!! lol

Here are a precious few shots from Cosford. We were all too busy on our hands and knees in the bargain bins to take pictures.......sorry for letting down those who wanted loads of photos.

First are three shots of dios that caught my eye - amongst loads of excellent models

My rather uninteresting kit purchases, but bought with future dios. / builds in mind. With the exception of the Union troopers, they were around 50p to a couple of quid each.

My fav. item, the raffle prize - a small tea tray!!!!

Finally, a little bit of self indulgence, my trophy.

Thanks again for a super day out boys,

Ron

what on earth Ron ?!?!?!? ..... you've bought planes .... you having a senior moment? :) :) :)

That trophy looks good eh :) :)

Er, young man......Planes remove shavings from wood......I think you are referring to my aircraft kits!lol....I will eduficate you yet.

Senior moments? Pensioners pocket more like.....and yes, I must confess the trophy does look good, thanks Col'

Cheers,

Ron

sorry Ron, aircraft it is.

I was being a little silly, and slightly hypocritical as I usually sit and grimace at incorrect grammar/spelling. mis-use of the apostrophy is a bug-bear of mine ... I notice you are of the old school that uses an apostrophy to correctly indicate a shortened name ... good on ya :) :) :)

Thanks for that John, saves me having to read more "Phantom" comments.

We a good haul for the Scale model Gang 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd. Well done to Ron, Ian and Andrew! Did you win a prize, or is the trophy, fame and glory the prize its self?

Looks like you all had a great time.

Ian M

You are correct in your assumption Ian ..... that's a bit of a "must have" and would fit in nicely with my general "theme" for building :)
