discussion Crown shaped needle cap

Hello

My airbrush has two needle caps - one with simply a cylindrical, but slightly flaired edge, the other is referred to in the parts list, as a crown-shape needle cap.

Does anyone know what the crown-shape needle cap does please? I've never used it. I suppose I could, but knowing what it's for might be useful before I do.

They are just to protect the needle point so it don't get bashed when you are in close. I believe that the crown shape is to allow a better view although when spraying a broad pattern I notice that my cylinder shape one does collect paint at the rim.

You can spray without a cap on but you have a risk of damaging your needle, the crown lets you see the tip of the needle so you can get closer while still protecting it.

The crown cap is designed for use when up-close, detail work is necessary. The crown cap works by allowing some of the air to escape away from the work surface so the paint stays atomized in a narrower stream at close range
