Besides building model cars, I have a collection of some large scale diecast cars, like Burago and the likes. Most of them I buy on ebay. This particular model arrived damaged, due to it not being packaged properly. It was sent in its original box, with just a few pieces of thin bubble wrap and thin cardboard, then taped up with brown plastic tape, with a fragile sticker on it. I knew it was damaged before I opened it as it was rattling around inside the box. Even the postman commented that it had been poorly wrapped. The car itself was loose inside its original box, having broken away from its fastening screws and the model was in several broken pieces of metal and plastic bits that were broken off during transit.

I contacted the seller and asked him for a reimbursment of what I paid for it and his reply was that it was ok when he posted it and that I should claim damages from the Post Office. I have never seen such a badly packed item as this before. No wonder it got damaged in transit. Anyway he was having none of it, so I have took it up with ebay, and sent these photos as well, like I also sent to the seller.

If the model had been properly protected, like all other parcels I have received from ebay sellers, it would have arrived undamaged. Just waiting to hear from ebay now. One thing is for sure I won't buy anything from this seller again and he won't be getting any feedback either.

Pure pessimism regret Geoff. Ebay are just only interested in counting the pound notes I am afraid.

Two purchases I made the motors died within 2 hours. Complained and got all the usual guff.

Despite the Supplier admitting responsibility I did not get a penny back.

The most galling was that both companies continued to trade on Ebay despite Ebay knowing

they were "crooks".

Hope you have more luck than me.

Amazon totally different. Suppliers are scared that they will be banned from Amazon and go out

of their way to make sure you are satisfied.

I'm not keeping my fingers crossed Laurie. This guy was a private seller getting rid of his collection and not a shop or trader. He must have realised that sending out a parcel wrapped like that was susceptible to damage in the first place, but then tried to blame the Post Office for mishandling, when I challenged him about it.

I once sent a parcel to someone, which although well packed, arrived broken (it was a porcelain lamp) The lady I posted it to sent me a photo of the broken item. Without any hesitation, I reimbursed her for the full cost. But there are people who sell things on ebay, who don't give a toss. Never mind, I can strip down the model and use the parts in a workshop diorama, as a restoration vehicle, so all is not lost, and I got a petrol pump with it, that wasn't damaged. It only cost me £11 + £3.50 postage. Unfortunately it seems I dropped on one of the bad guys to do business with.

I am sure that ebay will get your money refunded Geoff as I've used ebay extensively over the last three years and saved £s and in that time I've only had a couple of issues were ebay have had to intervene and I recieved a full refund both times. I can only highly recommend ebay to everyone especially if your looking for a bargain.

Just my opinion of what I think is a great safe shopping experience.

Other opinions and views and experiences are readily available.

But keep the faith I'm sure a full refund will be on its way soon.

Cheers John. This hasn't put me off ebay, I have bought and sold lots of stuff over the years and this is the first time I have stumbled on a bad seller. I just hope that ebay can sort it but it's not the end of the world if they can't. The seller will no doubt argue that it was packed well by him and that it was mishandling in transit that caused the damage. It's his word against mine. Anyway, I decided to give him negative feedback, for which I was then prompted, to take up a complaint procedure with ebay.

I think Geoff that the traders are the worst. My problems have all been with China.

Traced one that owed me. Started in USA, as their base, then UK then China.

Then found that the other that owed money was the same company as the first.

Ebay did nothing. As said the trader is still trading on Ebay.

I've used eBay for over 10 years now and since I started selling my resin bits on there I use them even more.

I've only had 2 occasions of having to contact the customer sales team and both times they have dealt with the issue and refunded my charges and item costs within days.

I didn't have to jump through hoops like some online shops to prove anything either.

The worst for me are Royal Mail, I often have items dropped on my doorstep that should be signed for or that are soaked right through.

Oh I know Royal Mail are not the best when it comes to handling packages Aide, but if a fragile parcel is packed properly as it should be, then it will stand a fair amount of knocking, throwing or dropping for it to get damaged like this model was. For one thing, I don't think he had screwed the locking screws into the model stand base tight enough, as it had ripped the plastic around were the screws held the model. That obviously caused the model to become loose inside its box, which then caused it to get damaged. So it wasn't Postman Pat's fault.

That's ridiculous. I sell a bit in eBay, and I always pack things well.

I have had a few problems with things I`'ve bought and I find the EBay complaint / customer service to be pretty good.

It seems that, as I have received the item as described by the seller, ebay cannot reimburse me for any damaged item that was not packed properly. It seems that it is between the buyer and the seller to sort things out. Looks like I aint going to get anything.

I have just sent another message to the seller, asking him if he would at least reimburse half the cost. So I will see what he has to say.

Personally I reckon hes dropped it on the floor before packing it up Geoff. I mean the body is die cast , brittle I know but still quite hard to break unless its hit with something else hard (ie. the floor?) I cant believe that the parcel would have had that much of a battering to do this damage , there wouldnt have been anything left of the box ?. and i know Royal mail get some stick but unless theyve started doing deliveries by firing parcels out of a cannon , I doubt theyre to blame this time. Hope he comes to his senses and gives you some money back , cheers tony

Having just read what you have said Tony, it makes sense. To cause the damage it has, it would need to be dropped out of the box. He was probably placing it back in its box, and accidentally dropped it. Then thought, oh shit! Never mind I'll send it as it is and let Royal Mail take the blame for bad handling. Like you say, it couldn't have got damaged like that from within the box, even with it's flimsy wrapping it came with, without it happening outside the box. Having said that, the actual box was not damaged, but it pretty good nick.

Just had a reply. Sorry, but it was perfect when I sent it and you should contact Royal Mail for damages. What a Plonker! Ah well, you live and learn that some people are just not worth bothering with

Wrap it up and post it back to him.......but make sure the postage is a few pence short and he'll get a note asking him to pay the difference and a £1 admin fee because he has been sent a package with the incorrect postage.
