DaveCov's Pyro 1/16 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide (M-157-125)

I am afraid, not Pete, it will be similar to the boxart. Thanks for the YouTube link. (y)

I have made some progress this morning.

The blue parts were removed from the runners and are ready for cleaning up:

The chrome parts were removed from the runners but no cleaning up yet:

They were then put in a freezer bag of Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner:

Most of the chrome finish disappeared almost immediately but I left the parts to soak for another hour. I then gave the parts a good rinsing in soapy and then clean water:

Next step will be to clean up all of the parts, fettling their fit as I go.

That is all for now

Dave
Looking forward to this - need sound now - Steppenwolf 's Born to be Wild! etc

Thanks peeps. (y)

I have been working for hours on this build already and it might seem that nothing major has happened.

However, all filler has been sanded now and the final part at this stage was to clean up the seams on the wheel halves. It took well over an hour to do them and even now I may have missed some seams:

I have been glueing as many parts as possible prior to painting and I have just about reached the point where it is time to begin priming:

Another little update.

At last I have managed to prepare the parts for priming:

And here they having been primed with AK Interactive acrylic primer. I rarely use acrylics for a whole build but I am using them for this build because I like using AK's acrylic markers:

The parts need to be left for 24 hours now before I can apply top coats.

Thanks everybody. (y)

Yes, Geoff, it will be good to get on with this build although a lot more painting is required before I can finally join everything together. I have made more progress with that painting but with mixed results.

The black parts were painted with a paint marker and look pretty good:

Parts that were painted with aluminium and dark aluminium had mixed results but they may turn out better after another couple of coats:

The painting of the chrome parts was much better though:

I will leave these parts to cure properly before taking things further. In the meantime, I will give some thought to the shade of red that I will be using for the mudguards and petrol tank.

That is all for now

Thanks Steve. (y)

A little more progress.

I have been working on the tank and mudguards. Originally, I had intended to do a deep red finish but in the end I decided that this AK Signal Red was a better match for the boxart. So far they have had two coats but I will do at least one more:

I then turned to the wheels and tyres. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the tyres onto the wheels. No matter how I much I tried. In the end I had to trim a lot from the centre of the tyres. In the background you can see where I have removed some "rubber" from one side of one tyre:

Eventually, I had to remove all of the rubber, clamp the tyres to one wheel halves and run CA around the edge of the wheel. Hopefully, that will do the job but I am not going to try to fit the other wheel halves for a day or two:

I have glued the chain guard to the left frame half, glued the frame halves and glued the rear shocks to the frame. The front brake drum and front wheel hub were glued to the forks. The forks are only dry-fitted at the moment. In the background is the engine which needs some more work before it can be fitted to the frame:

Another update.

I glued the second wheel halves to the tyres but I needed twice as many clips to hold them in place:

I removed the clips and touched up the chrome on the wheels but I still have to paint the tyres:

The head lamp glass has been glued in place:

And the engine has been glued to the frame:
