Ok, about time I got started on this one.


I will be going with the RAF version and OOB except I will scratch build the seatbelts.

Looks a decent kit Dave, nice to see the PR version, so sleek  and fast.

I've build the 1/72 version & that was a joy to make.


Looking forward to seeing more of this Dave

It is looking good, there are a couple of issues, there are some mould ejection marks low down in the cockpit, I don't think they will be visible but I will fill anyway. Also there are no decals for the instrument panel and the holes in the frames are marked but not there so I will drill these out.

Got underway with this, the seat belts are made and in, I still need to do some weathering, and maybe a little cleaning up of a couple of rough spots I noticed in the photograph.

I have used Eduards photo etch belts on other aircraft. In this case the cockpit is fairly enclosed so the belts would probably been all I would have used so I thought I would give scratch building a go.

A little more progress made, the cockpit parts are in place and the two fuselage halves are ready to be joined.

that kit has surprising detail in the fuselage for such an old airfix kit.

This is relatively modern, but it was designed when Airfix hadn't undergone changes in quality control and started producing more detailed models such as it's latest models eg. Spitfire Mk V

I hadn't realised that, although it would explain the poor cockpit detail compared to their 1/72nd Mk1 Spitfire I built.


Waiting for the propeller to finish drying before buttoning up the fuselage,  I started on the wings with a bit of dry fitting, found a trio of mould ejection marks which are visible in the undercarriage bays, as I am building this one wheels down some filling is now required. Not the greatest photograph but the problem can be seen.

Shouldn't be too hard to fill those shallow ejection marks Dave. Alternatively you could use some thin plastic card and pop a new strip over the offending rows.
