Jakko, you're pretty much correct, the Challenger 1 turret was based on the Chieftain casting, but there were a few modifications. The Challenger 2 turret was a completely new design, with the interior more ergonomically designed, rather than just things being put where they fitted in an existing design.

That brings back some memories spent many hours in there carrying out repairs.

Most tanks are tight for crew inside, I found the Centurion for driving bad enough , but the in the turret it was crampted.
