I use a cheap 'fan' shaped brush, which is flat/soft for my airplane models.
Others (Kacitgirl?) have mentioned makeup brushes, which you'll find in all shapes and sizes at any women-friendly store.
Probably the safest for delicate models is low presure air from an airbrush.

Thanks for that, I thought soft brushes could be the answer.
